#27 Part 61 vs 141 Flight School Military Benefits Foreign Student Training

Kenny Keller (creator of Helicopter Airline Ground School) explains the difference between FAA Part 61 and Part 141 flight schools and the implications for using U.S. military/GI Bill benefits and for foreign students seeking flight training in the U.S. He states you must attend a Part 141 school to use military benefits or to receive foreign-student flight training/visa assistance. His operation is Part 61, so it cannot accept military benefits or enroll foreign students for aircraft flight training, but his online ground school (helicopterground.com) can be used by any student as supplemental instruction; he offers private, commercial, CFI, instrument courses, monthly/yearly/professional packages and mentions two book products he sells.

Good morning. To use military benefits, GI Bill foreign student training, you need a part 141 flight school. I'm Kenny Cutler, creator, helicopter airline ground school. And this is a video I haven't done in 10 years that I need to do. I have done one, I think on, on the student training. But we get this question almost daily. People that want to use their money from, you know, the government, from the military benefits that they have available to them. And then we get a lot of requests for student training as well. Foreign students wanting to come to the US and they want to know if they can come to our specific school. So the easy, simple answer is you need to attend a part, what they call part 141 flight school. And to break down the differences real quick between part 61 and part 141. Part 61 is your average flight school that just starts up. You have certified flight instructors in the US you can just kind of start your own company pretty easily as a certified flight instructor. When you do that, you're operating as what they call a part 61 flight school. Now a part 141 flight school is under the oversight of the FAA. They have an FAA approved training syllabus and a part 141 flight school. You can actually do like the private rating in like five hours less than the part 61 school. So many schools are part 61. Part 141 is more specialized because they are held to a higher standard. They are under the oversight of the faa, they stick with a strict syllabus for their training. So there's nothing bad with part 61 in general. It's just part 141. Because they're held to a higher standard. They are allowed to accept the government benefits that are going to help you get through the ratings and they're also going to be able to help with foreign students. So that's really a quick, simple breakdown. At Helicopter Land ground school, we operate as a part 61. Now we also get the question. People want to use our online ground school to supplement their training wherever they're flying, Whether it's Part 61 or Part 141, it's still the same material. So yes, you can use our online ground school to help benefit your knowledge that you can use at home, anywhere, 24, 7 log in from any device for all the ratings. It's, you know, additional instruction to supplement what you're already learning. So yes, you can use our training whether you're going to Part 61 or Part 141, you can use our helicopter airline ground school. I'm going to put a link down below. We have private commercial, CFI and instrument courses. We have monthly, yearly, and then a professional pilot package where you can get everything. So when students want to come from overseas to train with us in the helicopter, that we can't do because we're operating as a part 141. I'm sorry, part 61. So very simply put, if you're wanting to come to the US to train and you need help with visas and all the paperwork, or you're wanting to use your military benefits to help pay for that flight training, with actual flight training, you must attend a part 141 flight school. So you're going to need to research on the Internet part 141 school. That's the quick breakdown on how you find out or how you can use these military benefits and. Or if you're a foreign student wanted to come over here, so I hope that helps. It's really pretty simple, but we get this question pretty much daily whether somebody want to use their military benefits or students wanting to come over here to train with us and actually fly with the aircraft in the flight training with us so that we can't do. You can use our ground school, but because we're not one Part 141 certified, you can't use military benefits to pay for the ground school either. But it's a small amount of money compared to the amount of money you actually spend in the aircraft. So I'm going to put the link down below for our ground school, helicopterground.com for the private and yearly memberships, you can go in for 24 hours and check out the entire site. You can check out all of our training for 24 hours. If you want to keep the training, you don't do anything. You'll just be billed monthly or yearly. If your site's not right for you before the 24 hours is up, all you have to do is go in and remove your credit card from within the site, inside your membership if you're a credit card member. If you sign up with PayPal, you have to go into PayPal and end that subscription. So you can do it before the end of the 24 hours. If you don't want to proceed on, you can come back at any time. If you do keep the training, you can keep as long as you want. One month, two months, three months. We have a lot of people, it's very common now where they'll going through their ratings, they'll use the private for several months. They'll end their subscription, build some time towards their commercial and then come back and join the Commercial Monthly to help them prep for their commercial test and then come and end when they're done and then same thing, come back and do the cfi. So the Monthly is really pretty popular and so is the big professional pilot package because that's unlimited that you can keep. It doesn't expire. So it's going to be there whether it takes you a year, two years, three years, four. Four years to get through all your ratings from off the street to cfi, which is common training will be there for you. So please give us a quick like and a share. Let us know any any other questions you have about part 141 or part 161 and using your benefits. But that's the quick breakdown. Part 61 flight school like the way we operate for flight training.
