#30 I heard FIXED WING before HELICOPTER will SAVE MONEY for CFI ???

Kenny Keller says skip fixed-wing training if you want a helicopter CFI job. Employers and insurers care about helicopter hours, not fixed-wing time, so every dollar should go toward the ratings that matter for hiring.

Should I do the fixed wing first to save money? To save money. Fixed wing first. This is a great question. I get it all the time and I just came in overnight and I want to try to grab a sunrise for you. Indiana sun sunrise. It's beautiful. So I'm doing this video for a member question that came overnight. This is coffee with Kenny. I am thankful. What am I? Wake up and be grateful. I'm grateful for the questions from all of you wonderful people out there that have been keeping the daily video going. So this question is. Let me read it to you. Hey, hogs, how's it going? I just have a few questions about starting my career as a helicopter pilot. I have been told that it would be cheaper to get my fixed wing private then get the helicopter add on. Say the difference is 100 per hour, for example. I feel the extra hundred for that time in a heli would be much more valuable to me rather than in a fixed wing. Yes, I have no interest in fixed wing, so don't do it. Okay. Nothing is fixed wing. And I'll explain that more in a minute. Just wondering what your opinion is on the subject. I plan on going as far as getting my CFI when I start. I'm also planning on signing up for your website, but I want to wait until I figure out all the finance stuff and I'm ready to start first, which is great. We're here when you're. When you're ready. There are a lot of things I still need to learn. Thanks for your time and input and have a nice day. All right, I'm going to cover this question. I am Kenny Keller, creator of Helicopter on Ground School. Sun coming up. I love it. This is awesome. Nothing against fixed wing, okay? If you're flying for recreational, you're flying to have fun. You can do it any order you want. Fixed wing then helicopter. Helicopter then fixed wing. Do both. That's great. But in his this question, if you're gonna go for the cfi, you need to do it all in a helicopter. Because when you go to get your first job, all they're gonna care about is helicopter time. And if you have 100 a fixed wing and 100 in helicopter, you're probably not gonna get hired. Especially if it's a Robinson most popular helicopter in the world. Right? You gotta have usually all Robinson time. You know, you're gonna have to have just hands down, you want the time in a helicopter. I just did a video recently about how insurance regulates everything that we do. Okay. Unfortunately, that's the world we live in. So if you're going to go the CFI route and you want to do this professionally, don't do fixed wing time. Getting your ratings. And this question is right. He even says, you know, is it worth it? You know, I think that'd be worth it to pay the extra hundred an hour because I'm getting helicopter time. Yes. I can't stress this enough. Again, nothing against fixed wing. If you're only doing recreational stuff, great. Hey, no problem. Do the fixed wing, do helicopter, vice versa. But again, if you're going to go the professional route, when you go to get that first job, and that's the hardest one to get, is to get a start in the industry, they want to know how much helicopter time you have. And also helicopter specific, you know, for each job can be different. I'm going to put the link down below where I go more into that in detail about how insurance regulates everything that we do. I suggest you go watch that video. If you're trying to get into this helicopter industry and you want to work in the industry as a professional pilot, go see that video now or when this video is done, go check out that video. Because I explain in detail on how insurance regulates everything we do. So this is a great question. I was glad to jump, get up, turn the coffee pot on first. Then I go turn the computer on and I'm drinking my first cup and I'm like, oh, my God, this is a great question. And it's a great question because this is something that people need to know. I'm gonna say one more time, I'm not a fixed wing hater. I have my fixed wing private so I can go do fixed wing fun stuff. I'm a helicopter CFI, have been for 20 years. I'm telling you straight, helicopter. Every hour of helicopter time is going to make a difference for you when you go to get a job. And this is hands down. So put your comments down below what you've seen or done and any tips or tricks, you know, getting there. Your thoughts as well. Do you agree with me? I'm pretty ironclad on this one. I'm not going to waver much. Go ahead and put your comments in below. You know, and in support of people asking this question, well, I've heard that, you know, I could save money. Well, you probably could save money by doing fixed wing, but then that's an extra checkride. And again, it doesn't go to this one. It isn't about money when you're trying to get there. You hear Them geese, they're crazy. It's warm outside, they're loving it. After sub zero temperatures last week. This is awesome. So anyway, I'm gonna, I'm gonna wrap it up right now because this question is, man, you need all the helicopter time you can get. If you're going to CFI professional pilot route. You want to get a job. That first hard job is going to be hard to get. And you're going to need every single one of those airplane hours, I'm sorry, helicopters in there in your logbook that you can, that's just hands down the way it is. And that's because of the insurance. You know, companies are going to be regulated by what their insurance company says. There's going to be requirements. And again I go into detail in another video that's down below. So put your comments down below about any flight or ground training questions. I'm Kenny Keller, creator Helicopter Line Ground School.
