#59 HAI Heli Expo 2019 SCHWEIZER HELICOPTER Should I attend as a STUDENT HELICOPTER PILOT

Kenny Keller says student helicopter pilots should attend Heli Expo only if they can afford it. The show is expensive and focused on manufacturers and equipment, though it does have some training classes and a job fair. If money is tight while building ratings, skip it and go later when job hunting.

Phone, wallet, keys. That will be me rushing around this morning trying to get out of here. Got to get things packed up and get going. Today's question. As a student pilot, should I attend Heli Expo? If you have the money. Real quick and simple. If you have the money and the time to go, go ahead and go. Go to the show, enjoy it. But if you're, let's say you're a student pilot, let's say you're going for the professional pilot route and you want to work in the industry and you're scrounging every penny, I might wait and go another year if I was you. I mean, it's cool, but Heli Expo is big manufacturers displaying their helicopters, which is cool, right? Shiny paint, navigation, lights, lots of gear and accessories, those kinds of things. But Heli Expo really is geared towards products. I mean, they do have some training classes throughout the week and they do have a job fair one day. But when you're there, you don't really get the feeling that it's really about training, you know, and how much are they really doing for the industry? And as far as getting new pilots in, we think we're, you know, we're kind of falling short, right, when we're short pilots, but we have a problem getting pilots from point A to point B. I'm sure there's some things that go on to help, but, you know, in general, I think we're falling short. And hell, and it is expensive. Heli Expo is expensive. It's expensive to get in. Hai membership's expensive. I think it's all really high. I think it's too high. Personally. Personally, I wasn't even gonna go. And I posted that on social media and a helicopter manufacturer friends of ours said, hey, you guys need to go. We'll help you out with that. So anyway, if you have the money and you want to go, go there, network, meet some people, see what's cool, see what's going on. I would say go. But if you're the, you're the, you're the professional pilot, go on that dream, you're working through your ratings and that every single penny counts. I would probably skip Expo and go when you can afford it, or go when you're more like ready to try to get a job, or maybe you're already working in the industry and you're ready to move to the next level, you could probably do that job fair. But just my opinion, I get that question a lot as a student. Should I go to Heli Expo? That's my answer. If you got the money to go, you got the time to go. Go enjoy it, have fun, network, see what's going on. But you're struggling for every penny. I would skip it and go when you can afford it or go when you're, you know, really needing to get there and network and see what's going on. So I'm going to get rolling.
