35 degrees, rain, snow mix. Would you go fly at 35 degrees while the rain, snow mix go up a thousand feet? We know the temperature decreases. What you gonna do today? Take chances. Well, calculated chances, I guess. I wouldn't take chances when it's near freezing. Couple members been asking me how old I am. I will tell you that I am a minimum of 50. I've told my stories in the past about doing stupid stuff, flying when it's near freezing. If it's anywhere near freezing, a little bit above, a little bit below, I don't go. It isn't worth it. Experienced aviators will already know this. If you're new to this, you may have not heard this yet. If it's a couple of degrees above or below, you have a risk of getting ice on the windshield, ice on the blades. It's just never a good idea. Now you got to take into consideration are you just going out in the pattern or you're doing a cross country, you know what other circumstances are involved. But I can tell you I have been into icing. It's not fun and it's very scary. And I can also tell you in a professional environment, there were times flying EMS that I would turn a flight down because it was near freezing. Another company would take it and then you'd hear about them landing on a field somewhere with ice. So making good choices is hard to do sometimes. I like to say doing the right thing really sucks sometimes. So with the vintage theme today, Day 70 coffee with Kenny. Figured I just have to mention my 1970 cream puff peeking over my shoulder.
