Limit your battery on time during pre flight. Like right now, I could turn a master on. I could check my nav lights, go back here, check my warning and caution lights, and as soon as you get done checking what you need to check, get that master back off. The reason is people get in this habit of, oh, I'm pre flight, I'm going to turn the master on and then they're over here. Then Billy Bob comes in and oh, hey, Billy. Yeah, how about that catfish dinner or whatever? And then, oh, I'm pulling out the phone and oh, I'm getting distracted with a text message. You're sitting there with your master on, pulling battery power that you don't need to use. So this could cause you to not only start the aircraft, but for those of you moving on the turbine models, you got to have a really good, fresh, solid battery, fully charged. If not, you can have a hot start. So get in the habit of just turn the master on, check what you got to check, get to your business, get it done, and then get that master battery back off. People have a bad habit of flip it on a master and just leave it on for half an hour at a time. Don't do that.
