Checkride tips to quickly find answers in the FAR/AIM

Kenny Keller demonstrates a fast way to find answers in the FAR/AIM during pilot checkrides: highlight and memorize the key sections (Part 43—maintenance, Part 61—licensing, Part 67—medical, Part 91—operational rules, and NTSB 830—accidents/incidents) and use the index/back-of-book to jump quickly to topics (example: "minimum altitude for helicopters"). He emphasizes that examiners expect pilots to know how to use resources quickly rather than know every answer from memory. The video also promotes a November 11, 2024 book signing in Las Vegas for the Ace Vase book with Taz Christman and mentions training/package availability and contact info.

Everybody's always wanting, oh, what's a tip for my check ride? I have a phenomenal one that I've talked about for years. It's inside our course and I go through it specifically. But I want to show you because a lot of you watch YouTube stuff and may never become a member. And that's fine because that's just the way things work, right? So I want to show you the far AIM quick way to look stuff up that can be super helpful in your study. Something that's not always pointed out to people. Very beginning of the FAR AIM look. This shows you the specific regs that you should study for private. Really, really important. But what I really want to get to now, I was shown this by Tim Tucker. So I got this from a great source. Many of you know who Tim Tucker is. We did our CFIS with Tim, and after it was over, he said, hey, guys, I want to show you something because there was two of us that traveled to California to do our CFIs with Tim. And he said, please take the time to show the FAR AIM to your students and show them how to quickly use it and look stuff up. So he's the one that said, grab your students. Far aim. Highlight part 43, because anything that has to do with maintenance, of course, whether you can do it or not, is in part 43, part 61, that's how you get your license. Part 91 is how you lose your license. So part 61, anything regarding getting your license is going to be in there. Highlight part 67, because that's for your medical standards and certificates. Part 91, this is your flight rules after you get your license. And then NTSB830 here at the bottom for accidents and incidents. And he said, almost anything you're asked on a private pilot checkride, it's going to come from one of those sections. Okay? So show your students that when you go to look something up, it doesn't matter whether you're using this or you're doing it, you know, with an iPad, most of your questions are going to come from one of those sections. So if you know that ahead of time and you have it highlighted and you're nervous during the checkride and the examiner lets you use the far aim, you can go, okay, Is it maintenance? No. Is it how I got my license? Yeah, that's it. Or is it regarding my medical? Or is it something that involves flying or airports or all the stuff you need to know about when you're out there flying as a pilot, if you break a reg in there, you're going to lose your license. Then again, accidents, incidents, very simple little thing. But I'm telling you, when you go to look things up real quick, this is a super fast way to do it. And then we all learn, learned early, early on in school, right? You go to the back of the book to look something up, but people don't think about it. Sometimes they're searching, trying to find an answer. And our examiner loves to make them look up the minimum altitude for helicopters. So you just go to altitude, minimum altitude, minimum for helicopters. Go to page 194 versus sitting there flipping around. That's a super quick way to get to answer the question or look it up because we know the examiners say a good pilot knows how to use the resources and you can't know every single question you're going to be asked on a check ride. But you know, have to, you have to know how to find the answers and find them quickly. So just a quick tip on the far aim on a good way to look things up and look them up quickly. And hey, if you haven't heard, November 11th book signing of Ace Vase, Vegas. Going to be with Taz Christman Top 10 checkride tips.
