Give us some comments down below. These are great tips. These are tips that designated pilot examiner Randy Shirky over here on the beside Chris is giving you on things he sees as an examiner. So, Randy, what's the next one on your list of pet peeves?
Kenny, Chris, welcome aboard the H130. As we cruise around northern Indiana today, we are down to the one that is probably one of biggest pet peeves. And the beauty of this one is you don't need to study for it, okay? All you have to do is write it down or have it memorized, and that is the iAcura password and login information. Nowadays, as examiners, we do everything electronically through the government website called iAcura. And you have to go in and sign that FAA form 8710.
Okay?
Back in the old days, you would bring that in to the examiner and you would hand sign it. Nowadays, we do it electronically. So I go in, I log in, I get through the checklist, and it comes down to that, reads, exactly this, applicant sign 8710. That's where I have to log out as the examiner, and then the applicant has to log in as the applicant that day. So when you do that, you have to have your login information and your password. So what happens a lot, a lot of the times, Kenny and Chris, is that the applicant is so nervous that they forgot the password. They try it three times. What happens? It locks them out. So then we start that process where they have to call the 1-800-number for Iacara. They have to issue them a temporary password, and that can take 45 minutes to an hour. So again, it's not what you have to study for, but it really helps the process move along. Guys, if they show up with that information written, memorized, whatever, that is a.
Perfect, perfect example of how one little thing you forget can screw up your whole checkride because you just frustrated the examiner. You frustrated yourself. You're jerking around on the Internet trying to get logged back in, trying to call, oh, my God, what a nightmare. And that's what we always say is, you know, the things that trip people up, as far as I've seen as instructors, and what Taz and I put together in the top 10 checkride tips is those frustrating things that we see over and over. And that's what we tell people. It's all the little things that screw up a checkride. It's not normally the big thing that you're worried about. It's stupid stuff like not having your, your iacra password. And you're right. I started back in the day. We did it all by hand. It was, I got good at that. And then they had to put it all online and what a nightmare when you don't have everything ready in the iacra and then you're trying to log in and like Randy said, you forgot the password. That's a great tip. I like that one a lot.
I have personal experience with that. I had an applicant go to the examiner that we've used that you're friends with for 20 years, and that's exactly what happened. He tried to log in, forgot the password, logged in again, did something wrong, tried to log in again, didn't work, and it booted him out. And then you have to call the 1-800number and I'll tell you what. Well, you know, the examiner, if he wants to start at 8, he wants to start at 8. Well, because of that, it put us behind an hour. And you talk about, you could just see it in his face that he.
Was, he was very.
Yeah, just happy.
It's not going to be a good check ride.
And then, and then on top of that with the applicant going there, it's his test, you know, now he's upset the examiner, which, you know, that happens. But he wasn't, you know how to start off a checkripe. Doing that already is just bad. So it was just, it was not. He did okay. But you know, it just, you know, especially that examiner. Being on time was not. Yeah, it was not a good experience.
And I felt bad.
I was, I was, wasn't even there, you know, I wasn't even taking the checkride. But I was like, oh, this is not good. You know, so I could feel it.
Yeah.
On a good note, I've seen students, they put it right in front of their logbook, right. So if you take your, you gotta have your logbook for the checkride. If you got it, you got your password in there, you're set. But thanks, Randy. That's a great one.
