Finish Your CFI with 3 hours Flight Prep

Kenny Keller says flight schools oversell expensive hour packages for the CFI rating. A recently commercial-rated pilot needs about three hours of flight time plus ground prep to pass, not the long packages schools push. The rating is about knowledge and teaching ability, not racking up hours.

There's a misconception out there. A lot of flight schools want to sell you a 10 or a 15 or a 20 hour flight package to get your certified flight instructor rating. And for many of you that is probably a big waste of money and an unnecessary package. When we did our CFIs, I did my CFI with another guy out in California and we had just recently got our commercial and, and we called up this flight school in California and they were had accelerated course like we kind of do now with checkrides. And they were like, look, you guys are commercial pilots already. When you come out here to do your cfi, it's about being a teacher, it's about presenting the information. You're going to fly three hours and that's it. You're going to fly no more than three hours. You're going to do the ground and you're going to take the checkride. And at that point, because of what we'd been told and what the industry kind of tells you, we were both a little bit panicky. We went to California, we did this one week course and exactly as they said, you guys are commercial pilots, fresh commercial pilots. Being a CFI is flying to a good commercial standard and talking and then the addition of a full down and now you get your full down endorsement from the instructor. So you don't even need that. Most generally you don't need that for the checkride because you're going to get that training from the person doing your three hours. We went out and did that. I mean we. It's proven, it really is about the knowledge. It's about presenting, being animated and having the information at a very high level of knowledge. So don't drag out your training because you feel like you need to fly 5, 10, 15, 20 hours from the left seat or right seat, depending on what aircraft you're flying. You can get this thing done. And this video is inspired by a gentleman who just inquired recent commercial pilot and he was talking to Heather on the phone or they were texting, he's like, well, I did my commercial, just did it. And I think I want to get this done by May. And I'm like, what? What are you waiting for, May? And anyway, we got talking about it. So I want to make this point very clear. We've been doing it and that's how we do all of our final approach courses. We set them at three hours that you're coming out here for your private commercial cfi. They're finishing courses. But for the CFI specifically, it's not like you're learning a bunch of new maneuvers. It is three hours minimum. Now, if you come out here and you're just, you haven't flown in five years, that could be a little bit different. But this is for somebody who has recently finished their commercial. And if you're flying to a commercial standard, it's about flying to commercial standard and teaching. So we got some special deals going on right now. Reach out to Heather at 574-767-1797. We've got some deals, 50% off R44 time. We even got a deal like you can do the R22 package price. But if you want the R44, we'll give it to you at the R22 price. So reach out to that number. See you in the next video.
