For Those Serious About Crushing A Helicopter Check Ride, Not For Slackers

Kenny Keller and operations manager Brian Rutledge created a 160-page helicopter checkride study guide with over 400 PTS-derived questions. It covers FARs and HOGS materials and will be available through HelicopterGround.com and HOGS one-on-one programs.

Something new and cool I'm going to print right now that you've heard nothing about until right now. A brand new study guide built by our operations manager, Brian Rutledge. It has over 160 pages with over 400 questions possible for a checkride, all taken from the PTS and then the answers to those questions. Brian has three months building this document. I'm going to go to the Earth port, we're going to print this dude off and take our first look at it. We don't know yet what we're going to charge for it, but we do know it will be available for our one on one offers. Details not worked out yet. We want to get the whole thing laid out, take a look at it. So let's go print that dude off. And for the next stop light on our way to the airport, go to helicopterground.com for special discounts right now. And even if you're viewing this video for later, we're going to start running some kind of a special every single month@helopterground.com Every month there'll be some type of Special. Go to helicopterground.com right now to check out our current specials. Some nice, some nice specials there to save some good money when you're working on your ground. All right, we're at the gate on approach to the HOGS hangar. So I want to fill you in real quick. If you're not familiar with Brian Rutledge, he is our operations manager for helicopter online ground school. Been with us for over a year. Retired sheriff's deputy, flew for one of the largest aviation units in California. He actually ran their operations. He's a CFI in airplanes and helicopters. So what Brian's been doing for three months is going through the pts, looking at every single thing that's covered in there and the questions that can come up on a checkride coming right from the pts, which is your checkride. If you don't know that yet, that's where your checkride questions come from. It will become the AC and when that happens we'll make any necessary changes, but not a lot's going to change anyway. So as my on the way up here, the hangar, I just want to let you know where this came from. Brian is one of the most detailed people I've ever met and coming from law enforcement, you, you're already usually a very detailed type of person and so you take that into your aviation experience. That's what helped me a lot. I'm a former police officer and learning how to study in the academy and Learn Reg really helped me when it came to learning aviation and especially like with the FAR AIM manual. All right, give you a raw look at the Big Hogs Wall of Fame. So proud of this dude. As you know, if you haven't heard from it before, if you're new to helicopter ground school, we have the helicopter line ground school Wall of fame. These are our members, the pictures they send in after their check. Rides, private commercial instruments, cfi, they're all there. Freaking cool. So anyway, we've got a cool machine for putting together books. Many of you have seen them in the past. So I'm gonna roll over here and fire up the computer, bring all these 160 pages of documents up. Alright, first look at the beginning. Let's print. So in this document he's got the questions first and brief explanations. And then they're duplicated in the next section with the answer so you can self test yourself. Self test yourself. And if we make this a hard copy, you could even go through and write the answers in and then check your answers because just wait till you see it. And as it's coming out of the printer, I'm just going, oh my God. Okay, as the printer keeps going, I'm gonna move the camera here so you can see this. I know it looks kind of funky because it's not an iPhone, but I don't think you're gonna find anything else out there on the planet that in the helicopter world anyway that's as detailed as this. This section is cross country planning. He has got so much stuff in here. And the list goes on. And the list goes on. This list goes on. This isn't going to be for the, the people trying to skate through a track ride. This document is so big and bulky. This is literally for people that really want an ace of check. Ace of checkride. Because you're going to have a lot of time going through this. But all my years of training and all the handouts people have and things people share and use, I can't think of anything that compares. And I want to challenge you to prove us wrong. Prove us wrong that there's one document out there or one book jammed with this much helicopter specific information. Because I don't think you can do it. Alright. And the last few pages, this thing is huge. Here we go. Let's go back to production mode. Lights came. Reaction. One, two, three. Voila. Okay. This truly is off the cuff. Like most everything that I do, I literally set things up real quick. Carried this baby over here and sat it down and Like I mentioned just a short time ago, at first I wasn't sure, you know, after all the time Brian was spending on this thing, I'm just being transparent here because I like transparency. And now that I can see this thing, I mean I could go on and on. So guess what? We haven't done much on YouTube in the last few months, ever since the last winter and 50 days of the daily flight brief. We're going to do some videos each day, talk a little bit about this thing. It's super impressive. And like I already mentioned, we're going to set this up in a book form and actually publish it, I do believe before we start making it available. Haven't got a price yet. Not sure exactly we're going to do the Sky's the limit with this document. The more I look at it and the more I see it. There is so much stuff in here. Absolutely amazing. I get three months of work, Brian putting it together, going through, and finding, you know, going through the pts. This thing's obnoxious. I don't think you're find anything like it. If so, let us know. Would love to hear about it. What we're going to do is we'll do some sample questions, do some videos over the next few days and just talk about it. But the way it's set up right now, he has each section set up. It's currently called pilot study Guide. That might change. But he gives you some information in the beginning about the pts and it goes right into, let's say certificates and documents. So the way we have it set up right now, you can read about certificates and documents, go through the questions, there's no answer. You could ultimately go through this and write your own answer in that section will finish and then it's repeated with the answers. So you can see where it's really cool that you could go through self test then go through the same section with the answers put in. All depends on how you would want to go through it. Any one individual person. I can see this thing becoming really popular, especially at flight schools. People sitting around testing each other or this would be valuable for instructors teaching their students. I just think it's, it's, it's incredible. And again, this is my first look, just leafing through it so you can see the size of it right now. And again we're going to add the maneuver guide that we already give away. We're going to add that maneuver guide to here, to this as well. Because with maneuvers of course you're getting that flight instruction that dual instruction with your instructor and whatever aircraft you're flying around the world. So Brian didn't want to make anything new. We have a maneuver guide based on the Helicopter Flying Handbook because essentially helicopters fly the same. Yeah, some buttons and switches are in different places and maybe you're flying clockwise and counterclockwise and you got differences between make and model. But the essence of helicopter aerodynamics and safe flying don't change that much. Again, other than different makes and models. So the maneuver guide based on the Helicopter Flying Handbook will be added to the rear of this study guide. And I'm even thinking, you know, maybe somehow this could be incorporated into my old notebook. Anyway, sky's the limits on this on this. Dude. Here's a question type down below. I know we'll get some crazy answers, but what would you pay for a document? What would you pay for a document that you knew you could sit down and go through it? And this is going to take you time. This isn't a quick 15 minutes, you know, refresh with before a checkride. This is over 400 questions just pick up. Let's pick a random question. What is an SV service bulletin issued by the aircraft manufacturer? Must you comply with a service bulletin? No, not regulatory, but is advisory. And again the list goes on and on and on. So I want to wrap this video up just because I really want to take some time looking at this and start figuring out how we going to go about publishing it and whether I want to do an electronic version or maybe just do a hard copy or maybe do a version of both. But let us know what you think. What would you pay for something like that? And other question I would like to know. I was thinking right now I put like certificates and documents section, no answers. Then certificates and documents with the answers. Do you think it would be good to leave it that way or would you rather see all the sections, the front half of the book with all the questions for all the sections and then the second half book be all those sections again with the answers. Right now I kind of like it this way because I think it's cool. For example, if you're studying certificates and documents, I think the best way to use this is going to be go through it, see how well you can answer it. And if you have a hard copy version, you can literally write down your answers to really test your knowledge and see where you're at and then go to the next section to see how you answered. Also, Brian has added resources in here. For example, who is responsible for maintaining the aircraft in an airworthy condition to include inspections and ad compliance. It's the owner or operator and he has the reference for FAR 91.403 which you as pilots study guides like this are nice. But inside helicopter land ground school and in this document we're always trying to get you to go look stuff up. So Brian has references to the actual fars and we want you to go use those and look these things up for yourself at least occasionally. So you're good using the far aim. And then he also points out videos in helicopter line ground school that coincide with a question. So in some places he'll say go to helicopter line ground school video such and such. So moving forward I think this thing is going to be huge and we're going to find all kinds of cool ways incorporate it into helicopter on ground school. So again we're gonna have specials going every month right now as of publishing this video. It's summer July 2021 got some excellent discounts going right now. However if you missed July discount and you're seeing this later, we'll always have some kind of special going each month@helopterground.com link down below. We also want you to know that we have special one on one options. Daniel Hastings is our one of our HOGS member specialists. He specializes in working with people on one on one programs and we're pretty sure people that go to the one on one programs are going to get a copy of this. All the details still to be worked out but Daniel can be reached at a link down below as well where you can go to schedule appointment. If you want to talk about a one on one custom special package for you. We also have self sign up options. Many of our members like you see on the HOGS wall of fame they just sign up go through the course completely on their own. Maybe they're using it to supplement the training they're getting at the flight school. Maybe they're not getting any at the flight school. Many of our members go through it unassisted. Some people really enjoy their one on one time with Brian. And man the rain is picking up. So I'm going to wrap this up. That's who made it. And Brian's going to use this. When you do a one on one with Brian he's gonna have this document sitting in front of him. So if he's testing your knowledge to see where you're at on a checkride, know that this is where his questions are gonna be coming from. It's badass man. Telling you alright go down below. Helicopterground.com leave us a comment below and we'll see you in the next video. Sa.
