H O G S Medical Q&A

Short YouTube Q&A where Kenny Keller answers Rick C.’s question about whether controlled heart failure prevents obtaining a solo pilot medical certificate. Kenny advises consulting an aviation medical examiner, notes that few people are denied certificates if conditions are controlled and managed, and encourages pursuing the medical evaluation. The video then shifts to promoting HOGS helicopter training resources (R22/R44 courses) and provides contact information for scheduling.
Do we have any questions?
Rick C. Good afternoon. I am 57 years old, retired and active. The problem is I am in heart failure but it is controlled. Does this fact preclude me from ever getting a solo license or would I need to fly with another pic?
That is a great question and the simple answer is anytime you are interested in flying and you've got some type of a condition like that, you need to go see what's called a aviation medical examiner. And you can google to see where you could find aviation medical examiners close to you and make an appointment and you go see one of them and have a talk with them. Because there are a lot of things a person can have wrong with them and still possibly get a medical certificate. A very small amount of people get turned down for medical certificates. There are guys that are flying professionally that have heart stints and others other issues. Right? So I as a non medical person can't advise you on whether you could get one or not. However, I strongly urge you to at least check it out. You have the interest in flying and I wouldn't give up that dream without at least going and talking to an aviation medical examiner first. The medical examiner, one of them that I used for many years, recently retired, but every year he would tell me people are always so worried about whether they're going to pass or not. Almost nobody fails and people are surprised at the different things that you could have going on with you. And as long as it's controlled and you're under a doctor's care, many times you can receive a medical you can get a free copy of this at private pilot whoops privateblueprint.com you can get a free PDF of this right now. And the beauty if you go there and sign up and download the book you can download immediately. You'll get a notification when the new video comes out for either the live or the premiere, whichever way we do it. And then we want to also bring up we are updating and starting to update our R22 specific course behind us Course behind us course using the helicopter behind us. Lindsay's in charge of getting in there and updating some Images in the R22 site section of Hogs we have R22 specific section and R44 specific section that come with any of our memberships. So you don't have to buy that specifically. We use private pilot, for example, monthly membership. It has both the R22 and R44 sections in there. And since we have an R22 available to us and an R44 available to us, we thought, why not get the content updated in those courses with some fresh videos, brushed images. We got two aircraft and a lot of people going, well, I want to. Well, I'm gonna. Well after Christmas. Well, that's when everybody's going to start wanting those times. So to speed the process along, we need to get some workbook for these helicopters. Both of them are sitting, currently not flying, and they're both ready to go. So reach out to Hogsmember support 574-767-1797. If you'd like to get on the schedule for some training. We specialize in check rides, finishing people up. But we can also do, you know, SFAR checkouts. Again, you can come in for one day, two days, whatever you need, or you need a block of time. We'd even be willing to work your little deal this time of the year to get some time on these aircraft. So again, reach out to Hogsmember support 574-767-1797.
When you feel the pressure to fly, but know the right decision is to stay on the ground, hit the hogs no go and live to fly another day. Helicopterground. Com.
