A short instructional YouTube video by Kenny Keller giving a basic helicopter flight training tip: always clear behind the helicopter before backing up. The instructor demonstrates/checks a fence behind the tail, advises doing a clearing turn and visual check before any backward hover or ground movement, and closes with a brief call-to-action.

Hello again, everybody. Kenny with Fort Wayne helicopters with another short flight training tip. This one's on basic helicopter maneuvers. One thing that I was trained when I started flying and that I've always stuck with my students, and I've seen a lot of guys that they don't do, is anytime you go to back the helicopter up, you always want to clear behind you first. Here in this video, you can see there's a fence back there. So I cleared my tail, made a turn, looked behind me, and then what? You're sure there's clear, then you come back up. So pretty simple flight training tip. But you never know. People are going to be coming up behind you in a fuel truck, somebody's driving across the ramp, so on, so forth. So anytime that you're gonna back the aircraft up, never just start backing up. Like, when I started there, I was doing hovering maneuvers. I was hovering left, hovering right. Before you back up, do a clearing turn, look, make sure you're clear. And again, like in this instance, we knew the fence was there. I'm making sure mentally, how far is that fence? How far can I back up and still stay clear? So always make sure clearing turn, check behind you before you back up. All right. Thanks for stopping by.
