Hello Governor

I want to give you a quick tip here about Governor off training. I recently had a fellow CFI that sent me a message and said, hey, I was just training another CFI or doing a flight review for another certified flight instructor. And that instructor had stated he has never, ever in his career done Governor off training. Which makes you kind of wonder, like, okay, through all those ratings, nobody's ever done Governor off with you. And you've been flying helicopters with governors, and that makes you question some of the training going on out there in the world. Right? So we're in the R44. Governor op training is allowed for training. We can't just go fly with the Governor off because we want to, but it is. It is allowed in a training environment to turn a Governor off. So we're out here. And luckily, because I trained in helicopters early with no Governor, it doesn't freak me out quite that much. So here comes the Governor coming off. All right, now I gotta do is make tiny adjustments. So I'm just doing a hover. I could go do this in flight. RPM is a little high, so I'm just going to roll back a little, tiny bit of throttle. I am very simply keeping it right where it needs to be there. It's a little bit low. So I'm just making super tiny, tiny little adjustments. I'll have Heather put the camera down on my wrist and pretty much you can see that. You really can't see my wrist moving. Okay. These movements that I'm going a little bit up, a little bit down, they're very, very minute. And the point of doing this Governor Op training is if ever you have a Governor failure, you've done enough of it to realize that, hey, I can control this. And I get it. If you've never done it, it can be intimidating. But if you are a student or you're advanced past student and you've never done Governor Op training, I highly recommend you say to your instructor, hey, can we please do some Governor Op training? That's just a little sample of now. I'm barely. I'm not even really moving it now. It's just kind of stay input. So point is, if you have not done any Governor Op training, get with your instructor, it is allowed, and go out and do a little bit of flying with the Governor off to realize that in the event you lost that Governor, you can do it.
