Hovering Autorotation Hover Auto

Kenny Keller from Fort Wayne Helicopters teaches hovering autorotation: roll off throttle with right pedal, count one one thousand, then pull collective smooth. Keep rotor RPM around 70 to stay in the green.
Questions this video answers

Foreign. Hello, everybody. Kenny with Fort Wayne helicopters. And I'm going to go out and show a hovering auto rotation, maybe give a couple of tips that might help you out a little bit. I think the key to hovering auto rotations timing. It's all about Tim. Got a beautiful sunset tonight. Making use of the golden hour. All right, so here we go. Been working day and night, crazy, crazy, crazy hours for helicopterground.com our online ground school. It's a pretty night. I needed a little break, and I stood outside for a second, looked at that sky, and thought, you know what, let's shoot a video out sores real quick. So with a hover auto rotation, it's all about timing. It's not really complicated as far as the amount of things that you have to do, but doing them at the right time is the key. So you want to reposition your hand on the throttle, have a nice hover going. Make sure you count the maneuver off. 1, 2, 3, enter. Or however you do it, 3, 2, 1, enter. I had a student yesterday that decided to do one and not tell me he was going to do it. A good way to scare your instructor. But you want to reposition your hand on the throttle. Count off. One, two, three, enter. Have a decent hover going or somewhat stabilized hover. When we enter this, we're going to roll off the throttle at the right pedal. You need to pause. A key is to pause. Common mistake. Students want to roll the throttle off and yank the collective up or dump the collective or not pull it at all. You want to pause, I think one one thousand and then pull. So that's the whole key. So let's give it a try. It stabilized. Reposition our hand on the and think. One, two, three, enter. Throttle off, right pedal, one one thousand, and then pull. That was a little stiff, but I pulled too soon. Let's try another one. Focus outside. Stabilize hover, reposition your hand on the throttle. It's all about timing. Simultaneously roll off collective, add right pedal, pause, think 1 1000, then a nice smooth pull up. And then don't forget to lower the colle collective back down. So here we go. One, two, three, enter. Throttle off, right pedal, one one thousand, and then a nice pull down to the ground. Collective back down. Look at that sunset. Beautiful. One, two, three, enter. Throttle off, right pedal, pause. Nice smooth pull onto the ground. Collect it back. Count it off. 1, 2, 3, enter. Throttle off, right pedal, pull collective back down. Pedals back to neutral. Cyclic back to center. Please click the like button. Please leave comments with feedback and we will see you all on the next one. One, two, three, enter. 1, 2, 3, enter. Throw off right pedal. Pause, pull back down. And we're going to Count it off. One, two, three, enter. Flex them down. Throttle back. Keep the 60. Keep the 60. Keep the sixty. Keep the 60. Tree top level. We start a gentle flare as we come in. We make it bigger, bigger, bigger, Bigger. Flare. Flare. Flare. Forward. Cyclic raise collective. Roll on throttle. Adjust pedals. Radiant auto rot. That was a bonus. It worked out pretty good. Gonna enter over Napa. One, two, three, enter. Collective down, throttle back. Crack. Start our minimum 60. We like 70 RPMs during that time. We raise collective a little bit, keeping that RPM in the green. Keeping our speed about treetop level. We start a general flare so we come in closer. We make it a bigger flare. Keep flaring flare. Flare. Flare. Flare. Forward cyclic race. Collective roll on Thrott.
