How many times per week should I fly?

Kenny Keller recommends flying three days a week for helicopter training. More than that risks burnout, while once a week slows progress and leaves you vulnerable to weather cancellations that create long gaps.

One, two or three days a week, which is best for flying. I'm going to give you my take on that. I'm Kenny Keller, creator of Helicopter Land Ground School, and we're gonna do a short series of videos for you on things that we get asked all the time. This list was put together by our operations manager, Brian Rutledge, who he talks to our new members as they come in because we offer a free 30 minute consultation to any new member with helicopter and ground school. So. So Brian whipped these up on things that he gets asked when he's doing a consultation with a new member. They might be off the street, starting brand new, they might be working on advanced rating, but these are a lot of things that come up when he interviews people, when they sign up for hogs. So I'm going to give you my take on that real quick. There's a copy, free PDF down below of top 10 checkride tips. Amazon number one best seller. Checkride day, that's down below. So one, two or three days a week, I'm going to say three days a week is what I've seen over the years that's best for learning. Now we realize depending on your situation, no matter where you are, these tips may not work for you. They may work for you, they may not. And you have school, lives, families, other things going on. So do whatever works best for you. But what I've seen over the years, three days a week works really well. Can you fly more than that? Yes, you can. The thing about going more than three days a week, your burnout will happen a little bit quicker. Your learning plateaus may be more frequent and last a little bit longer. Not saying you can't do it. We've seen Hogs members go off the street to CFI 2 in six months and that's a massive undertaking. But on the flip side of that, if you only fly once a week, each time you go back, it's like the next week, a week later, you're kind of catching up. So you can certainly do that. If that's what works for you, then that's the way you have to do it. But what we've seen over the years is three days a week. Three days a week seems to really work well for learning. And I'm just saying that's from my experience. My tips may or may not work for you. That's what I've seen over the years. So three days a week. Again, if you do the math and you figure one one flight hour a week, once a week, not only is it hard to just make a lot of progress, but look how long that's going to stretch out over what if you have to cancel? They have to cancel for maintenance, you got to cancel for weather. You lose a week, then it's two weeks before you get in there. So if you do the math and think about it, it makes a lot of sense. So three days a week is our recommendation to make the best progress with your training. So again, do what works right for you. That's our tip.
