How to save $$$ on your Helicopter Private Pilot License

Kenny Keller's Helicopter Online Ground School (HOGS) cuts ground training time and cost. Students like Davis Marlar completed 35 hours of ground work through the course, and Nick Cools passed his private checkride in September. The yearly membership includes video lessons, FAA practice tests, and a 400-question study guide, with a free guide offer through October 15.

Four more members going on the HOGS wall of fame. And this first one, Nick Cools, is really neat. He said very simply, hello, Heather. Passed my private ground and check right on September 4th. Thank you so much. He said it was one of the top three ground exams he has ever had. Nick, we are hearing this more frequently from examiners that they're saying their best applicants when they say how did you study and prepare today? Examiners are now even saying that the applicants are reporting they use Hogs. Next up, Davis Marlar. This is really cool. He wrote in to tell us I absolutely could not have done this without your online course. I showed up to flight school on day one and checked off about 3,35 hours worth of ground through having the instructors verify my knowledge. Thank you, Hogs. This is a repeating story as well. This is not the first time we've heard this. We're going to touch a little bit more on that here in a minute. Next going up is Luke Hammer. He is the winner of our contest where he not only gets a no go button, he also gets a Hogs hoodie. We put this out in a video a couple weeks ago that the next person to take a checker after a certain date that was a current member would get a hoodie along with the no go. Everybody gets the no go once your picture goes up. So there's Luke Hammer, new private pilot. Again, he gets the no go and the hoodie. And then we have and I don't know if I can pronounce his name correctly. What did we think? Jim Badru maybe? Hopefully I didn't butcher that. Too bad. New private pilot. Check him out in his 2022 R44. I think that's pretty darn cool. I am jealous. Okay, to recap on that, Nick, I mean this from his examiner, one of the top three. We are hearing this. I just had another very popular DPE from the Midwest who sent me a copy of an email. He sent a guy and said, hey, so and so. This is the online ground school I've been telling you about. Here's a link to their site. He said when my applicants do really well, when I asked them what did they do to prepare, they tell me they used helicopter online ground school. So this is a recurring theme. HOGS works. Many of you know, some of you don't. Our training is now used by Madisonville Community College as their core training for their professional pilot program. They're using our 30 hours of training in just the private alone. As towards their credit hours, they're using the quizzes and the FAA written test practice at the end as their formal course of training. And other big news, another local technical college. It sounds like it's going to pick up our training as well. So it sounds like we have another technical school that's going to adopt our training. So that's exciting. And then back to Davis. You know, this is the guy that said he checked off 35 hours worth of ground at his flight school. So take that 35 times whatever they're charging an hour for ground. 40, 50, 60, $75 an hour. This happened first with our superstar Johan years ago. I have that video on YouTube from way. I want to give you a testimonial from an instructor. I have a lot of testimonials from our members, but I got contacted first by this young man, Travis, who emailed me telling me about how awesome his student Johan was and how he did such a great job. And of course I remembered this young man. I emailed him right away and said, hey, your instructor just told me what an awesome job you did. And he said, yeah, absolutely, you know, thanks to your ground school. So I asked this young instructor to make me a video.
I recently taught a student of mine at our school. He was doing a private pilot and three week course that we offered, which is an extenuous course. It's super fast. I have to do a lot of training with the students and get them up to par within the three weeks because most of them come on visas so they don't have much time to spend. Particular student of ours, his name was Johan Van der Walt. He came to our school and I set him down with ground school with another instructor of ours. And the first day I looked in his folder and it said review. Well, I figured that the instructor wasn't doing their job, so I looked in and I scheduled my own ground school with him. And sure enough, it was a review. I was appalled by all the knowledge that he had and I asked him, hey man, what did you do? Well, he said, well, this helicopter online ground school thing, he's like, it's awesome. You get on there and he's like, it takes you everything that you even need to know. And I said, wow. So we quizzed for a little while and I figured, hey, he's pretty content. I would leave it at that. He can go on for his checkride. I'll give him the sign off for his oral part. So a couple days later I told him, hey, get your written knocked out. He got his written knocked out. We flew for the Whole entire three weeks and he finished it up. The easiest student that I had. It was an honor for me to work with him because he already knew everything that he was talking about. Super easy gentleman to get along with. He passes oral perfectly, passes flight test perfectly. He had no stress throughout the whole entire three weeks because all he had to focus on was the flying. Because like I said, he got his written test done within the first three or four days that he was there. So that was awesome job on his part. An awesome job on Kenny's part. Great job, fellas.
That's Johan's, the one that walked into the flight school and they checked him out and they went, oh my God, what did you do? And he's like, I used HOGS listening to it, driving up and down the tractor all day long. So that's the benefit people. It's, we're legitimate now, right? I've spent 10 years being self conscious about what I built and is it good enough and everything that we've done in 10 years, more than 10 years now, to constantly improve and upgrade the training. It's really amazing. And when I saw firsthand at Madisonville Community College how they're using our training, you know, I'm watching the person in charge of record keeping and all that going, she's going right into HOGS and going, yeah, look, see I go to each lesson and I go through, make sure they watch all the videos. I give them a date to have each section completed and then I go in here and check this quiz score and then she takes that score right from the HOGS quiz, inputs it in their permanent college record. And then at the end of the course we have the FA written test practice that is their final test at the end, all a part of it. And I'll mention again the written test practice we have at the end of our courses for private pilot, commercial pilot, instrument pilot and certified flight instructor. All those written tests have been updated with fresh questions by Michael Worth who I will mention again, he is on our hogs wall of fame times four. And he joined in 2018, got his private in 2000. No. Or 2020. 2020. He became a HOGS member, got his private, he's all the way through, certified flight instructor, working on double I. And he has a full time job flying with the Cruman Corporation, flying these big firefighting aircraft and heavy lift aircraft. So here's a guy that proved within a couple years of starting to get the ratings, is out there working in the industry. So it happens. The stories are real. People can do it. You have to look past the naysayers and say, yeah, you can't do it, you can't get a job, blah blah blah. It's not true. It's about having the drive, the ambition, the discipline to not only learn and do well in your ratings and become as knowledgeable as you can. It's then about selling yourself to go out there and find those jobs. They're not going to fall in your lap. You have to go chase after them. So we're excited about those HOGS Wall updates again and we're going to give you the freebie links down below. There's a free PDF for top 10 checkride tips. Free PDF for our helicopter maneuver guide, which is a nice download you can use and either use it as electronic format, you can even print it off at home if you want something you could scratch in your own numbers for the aircraft you're flying, etc. Both of those free PDFs down below. And then we want to tell you about special because you stayed to the end of this video private pilot study guide. There's a link for this down below. This is for sale on Amazon so we don't sell those at a discount because they're an expensive book. We got the best of everything, the best paper, the best covers, spiral bound so you can lay it open flat and work through it. This has become quite popular and what we're going to do is we decided just before hitting record on the camera today, I said let's do a special for anybody that hangs around to the end of a video. If you go for a yearly private pilot, we're going to send you one of these along with your purchase. And we don't do this very often because again, it is an expensive book. But we thought let's do something special at the end of the video because you hung around. So we got to figure a date real quick. Heather, how long is this good for? Till the end of. Until October 15, 2022. If you go for the private pilot yearly membership on the HOGS website, we'll send you a study guide. Heck yeah. So that link down below, if you want to pick up your own copy, this was put together by operations manager Brian Rutledge. He spent over three months last summer, the summer of 2021. There are 400 questions in here, possible questions for a private pilot checkride. And yes, you can use it on a commercial because a commercial checkride is a glorified private. And then as a CFI you have to teach this stuff. So it has certificates and documents. It has everything's requirements, weather information, cross country airspace, performance limitations, operation of systems, aeromedical factors, General Aerodynamics. Over 400 questions and each chapter is duplicated. You have all the questions with no answer so you can test your own knowledge. Write it in the book if you want. And then in that same chapter the questions are repeated with the correct answer. So Brian developed this with the idea of you go through it. So let's say certificates and documents and you go through and you ask yourself this question and you can even write it in if you like. That's the idea. Do you know the answer? Go through, see how well you do. And then go to the second half of that chapter and then all the correct answers are listed so you can use it to test yourself. So that's down below. So we'll see what happens next because you just never know. Lots of exciting cool stuff happening. So like and subscribe. I haven't said that in months. I got tired of saying like and subscribe. But you know what? Do us a favor, give us a like and subscribe. We'll see you the next video. Peace out. October 15, 2020, 20202020202020202022 it.
