New Helicopter Commercial Pilot Jonathan Wolf HOGS Member

Jonathan Wolf, a Missouri power lineman, passed his helicopter commercial checkride after using HOGS videos to study. He logged about 3 hours of flight time before the exam, with staff verifying 20 hours of ground knowledge. He stumbled once on a hypoxia question during the oral.

There's your checkride aircraft. Are we up yet? Sure. All right. Hey. Kenny Culler, creator, helicopter line ground school. Jonathan Wolf, new HOGS member. Not new HOGS member. HOGS member. New checkride just got done. Gary Cleveland, chief pilot, helicopter line ground school. They just got back. We haven't. I haven't specifically asked them how it went. I know that he's got this in his hand, and I know when I walked in the door just a few minutes ago, I walked in. Gary goes, oh, we have to go back tomorrow and just do one thing. And I said, you're a liar. I know better. He'd already told me how good the flying was, so another HOGS member, successful commercial checkride. So I'm gonna let. I'm gonna hand the mic over to Jonathan. Let him just tell you real quick a little bit about who he is, whatever he wants to share, and why he came here to finish his rating. So if you don't mind.
Yeah. Thank you. Yeah. I'm from Missouri. I'm a power lineman. I've had. I got my private about six years ago, actually. I started watching your videos in 2011 before you started your hogs. Kind of helped me get through the book work, doing it by myself. Then the company asked me to get my commercial for insurance purposes and some other things, and so I kind of started feeling out what I should do, and then I decided this would be my best avenue. I talked to Gary and I talked to Kenny, and the videos is what did it for me. Fantastic job. My oral was unbelievable compared to my private, doing all that book work by myself. So my hat's off to you guys. I appreciate it, and you guys do a great job.
Gary.
I've worked with him since I got here flying. Terrific pilot. These guys make you feel at ease. I've enjoyed my whole experience. I appreciate it. Thank you.
Gary, pleasure having you.
New commercial pilot. Haven't shaken your hand yet. Awesome. Gary, you want to input a little bit? Tell us. He gave us his background, kind of where he's coming from. Tell us when he got here, what you guys did. Basically, just short version, between the day he got here and today.
Well, when he got in town Monday, this most recent Monday, he's only been here since Monday. So this is the fourth day we just first went through, made sure he had all the aeronautical experience that he needs for the rating. And we spent a total of 20 hours approximately on just verifying ground. Basically, he already knew it. We just had to verify it before we could recommend him to go to the examiner and we did the minimal three hours of flight to recommend him to go to the examiner and his flying was. Was already phenomenal and it's just another success story. It's a pleasure flying with them and we'll keep in touch. Making a lot of good friends in this industry.
Yeah, we're having a great time. Tell us, you said there was one hiccup. Tell us what that one. What that was. You did mention that to me what it was, but tell us what the hiccup was.
I asked him right away, you know, what was fresh on his mind, if there was anything he got stumped on and he said hypoxia.
Yeah, which that's common. Hypoxia is one that is easy to mess up and people struggle with. So if that's the only hiccup, little struggle with hypoxia, then nobody ever gets everything completely right on a checkride. You know, we know that even, you know, our longtime examiner buddy Jeff says when I take my checkride with faa, I screw up. Nobody gets everything right. And when you're doing really well, they'll just keep asking and they'll keep asking until they find a way to stump you. I mean, that's just what examiners do. Awesome. Do we have any questions coming on Facebook while we're up? No. Okay, cool. Well, we didn't. Didn't ask anybody to, so. That's alright. So he's gonna jump in the car and head home. Been here a week. It's nice having you again.
Appreciate it.
Fun like everybody else. So put your comments down below like and share. See you in the next video. Give it a few seconds there, Steve. Make sure it doesn't go away or you can have your certificate back. Yeah, you kind of want that. Kind of need that. It.
