New Helicopter Online Ground School

Kenny Keller (creator of Helicopter Online Ground School and author of Helicopter Checkride) presents an updated training platform introduced for 2016 and describes the site’s offerings. He reviews the homepage, free downloads (book PDF, notebook sample), and course catalog including original Modules 1–10, a Practical Test Standards (PTS) course, Commercial/CFI tracks, and aircraft-specific R22 and R44 sections. The new platform is mobile-optimized, uses an improved video player, and adds progress tracking so users can see which videos they have started/completed.

Hello, I'm Kenny Keller, the creator of Helicopter Online Ground School and author of the Amazon bestseller Helicopter Checkride. And you're here on this information video to learn a little bit more about our Helicopter Online ground school. We went live March 1, 2012, and in the past four years, we've helped a lot of people get through Checkrides. I know what it's like to struggle. You're probably struggling a little bit with the studying part, the ground portion, because that's what everybody does. Everybody struggles with the ground. And 20 years of teaching is just what I see repeatedly, over and over and over, people just struggle with the ground knowledge. You know, the flying's the fun part. We all want to fly. Nobody wants to do ground. A lot of places have good ground school programs and they all sit and work with you, but you still take, or it still takes a lot of study time on your own. And then there are schools that just go, here's the book, read it. And they just throw a book at you. So depending on whether you just want extra help, you're getting ground from your instructor, but you want extra help, or maybe you're not getting any ground at all. That's why we created Helicopter Align Ground School. We have a brand new training platform for 2016. So, you know, this video is updated. 2016 is almost here and I want to show you our new platform. This is really, really cool. The platform that we've been using for four years was a great start. The developers of it, you know, they were proud of it. But these developers came out with a new platform and of course, once I got a look at the new platform, hands down, it's just technology changes so much in a short amount of time. They created our original site five years ago, so they're proud of it. It worked, got us to this point where we're at. But in five years, mobile devices change, you know, video players change, everything changes. So they built a brand new site and we've loaded all of our content from our old ground school into this new site. The helicopter ground school we've had for years is still there, it's still in place. All of our members that have that training still have that training and they're going to have an option to upgrade to the new platform. So you at this video, you're probably here as a first time. Maybe you just learning about our ground school, or maybe you've been looking for a while and now you're coming back to take a look again. So what I'm going to show you is the majority of this I'm going to show you on iPad. I've been demonstrating with the laptop, I've been demonstrating with my iPhone. They all work. And now I'm going to use the iPad. So that's the one thing, of course, that these developers have said is, look, you know, we understand in five years, we all know what's happened with mobile devices, electronic devices. It's went nuts. These guys are tapping their field. I completely believe that. And they've doubled and tripled the size of their business building these online platforms and working with them. And I truly believe they're some of the sharpest guys out there building these types of websites. So anyway, what I want to show you is the different programs that we have available with Helicopter online. Ground school. This is our homepage now@helopterground.com. this is our new home for everything that we're going to do. All of our old sites are in place, but we're all slowly, with time, going to migrate to this new site. So what I'm going to show you is this is our homepage. When you first go to the homepage, there's a store which just shows our different products and services we have about us. Quick, short page, not a lot to it, just let you know what we're all about and what we do. Blog post. We'll be adding new blog posts to this. We're going to take a lot of the old blog posts from the old, old site and repost them, update them with new pictures, new videos, because quite honestly, things change over time and we put out more videos, better videos, more programs, better pictures. So we're going to move a lot of those blog posts over to the new one, along with putting up new blog posts as things change and new programs come out and new, different things we want to talk about as far as helicopter training across the board, no matter what it is. So that's where our blog is. And then we have my library, which once you join our system, I mean you as the general public can come and view the site. But if you say sign up for a free PDF download from my book, you'll be in the system. We'll have your email. You can make a choice whether you want us to be able to email you or not. When you sign up for the free book, check the box if you'd like to get training updates, don't check the box and we won't email you, we won't bother you. So you can get into the system by downloading my free book. Helicopter Checkride free PDF copy that is there's also the opportunity to get the Kindle copy for $0.99 or the paperback copy. So moving on with the training that we have, I'm going to go ahead and slide up. This is what you'll see on helicopterground.com, our homepage helicopter online ground school courses. So I'm going to run through them first, show you what I got and then I'll go through back through and talk to little bit about each one of them to you and give you a little more in detail. So we have a download for my helicopter checkride book best seller on Amazon. We have a 10 page download for my notebook that we'll talk about a little bit more in a minute. Those you can click on doesn't cost you anything. You have to sign up for your with your email. I guess it'll cost you your email to get the download but you have an option to choose to get emails from us about new training and special offers things along that lines. Then we have our original modules through 101 through 10. This is the original training that I launched back 3-1-2012 based on my notebook that I created back after my helicopter checkride failure. I tell the story over and over again. It's why I'm here doing what I'm doing because I failed the first time around and man it hurts and I understand and I know what it's all about. I know what it's like. So after I failed I sat down and I made this notebook, used it for all my ratings, private commercial CFI got through my second test at a private level and smoked it. And the examiner said, you know, hey, what happened? Why did you fail the first time? And I said because I didn't know my stuff then, like I know my stuff now. And part of the way I did it was by creating this notebook so I had one central place to study because like most of you, you get all these books and now you've got apps and you got this and you know a lot of these things are great but a person can overwhelm themselves just back like when I filled my private and I built the notebook so I could sit down, took all the notes I had scattered everywhere and I put them all in one place so I could sit down, just go through my notebook and just study things. I struggled with remembering things. My instructor said, you got to know this. I put a little bit of everything on there and it's now a published book on Amazon too. And we've had a Lot of success with that. And it's just neat that this notebook I created all those years ago that I bought for $3.99, that I never intended this book to be anything other than just my notebook. I started teaching out of it as an instructor when people would be ready for their check rides. People I was teaching. Somehow at some point back in the beginning, I'd just go, well, you're pretty much ready, but hey, you know what? I think let's sit down and go through the notebook. So I would sit down and I'd just leave page to page, and I would go ask a question from that page. They could answer it. Okay, I'd ask a question from the next page, and that's what I would do. And if I'd go through my notebook, asking a question per page, a question or two, and I didn't stump them, I knew they were ready. And that's what I gauged it on. You know, I'm a firm believer in the pts. I use the PTS when I train and work with students. Everybody should be using the pts. This was just my own personal guide, my thing that I like to use. And over the years, instructors would say, hey, can I borrow that? And I had students say, hey, can I borrow your notebook? My people literally try to buy it. And I was always very careful. I didn't want to give it out because I didn't want anything bad to happen to it. So that's the story on the original modules 1 through 10 that you see right here, the original training we took. And I built 330 pages of PowerPoint on my notebook, and that's what we started selling March 1, 2012. And we had a lot of good success with that and was getting through people, through checkrides. But I would have people that would sign up and say. Or possible customers that would look at it and say, you know, modules one through ten is okay, but, you know, I want structure. I want to go through something step by step. So we then created the Practical Test Standards section. So with the Practical Test Standards, basically what we did was I went through the pts, I sat down, did this alone, by myself. Just start going through the Practical test standards, all 10 sections. And I would go back and get any new or. I'm sorry, any old videos I had in the first modules 1 through 10, I would go back, get that content, move it into the PTS section. Some things I would create new, some things I would add. I maybe had YouTube videos that were newer than my original modules 1 through 10. I'd bring those in. So everything in the practical test standards, it covers everything that's in the modules 1 through 10, but it covers more because I'm following the PTS, move the content over, it has a nice flow. Following the pts, going through step by step. And of course a lot of people really love that because some people need structure and that's great. Most people do. The original modules 1 through 10 are good for like a lot of guys that maybe are doing an add on. Add on. Guys like it because they're already pilots, they're already rated and they kind of want to be tested and random things thrown at them. Which again, that's with the original modules 1 through 10 was just what we called helicopter checkride preparation. It's just going through, covering things you have to know. So modules 1 through 10 is kind of random, it's just kind of testing your knowledge. The PTS section, that is a step by step method, going through the FAA practical test standards, making sure we cover everything that you got to know. Then we have a commercial pilot section. So the helicopter commercial pilot, we dig more into how, what the differences are between the private and the commercial. You know, the checkrides are very similar and this is really true. They very are, they really are very similar checkrides. It's just the examiner is going to test you to a higher level. He's going to expect you to know everything that you knew at the private level. But answer faster, more concise, be able to dig in deeper to those same subject in those same things. So that's why we created the of course helicopter commercial pilot section was to help people get through the commercial section. We have certified flight instructor section. Again, specific things about becoming a CFI. At the CFI level you need to be able to fly to a good commercial standard and talk at the same time. And then it's about classroom, it's about being in the classroom. So we go through the certified flight instructor section and go through tips and tricks and things we've seen and we cover FOI stuff. And I show you some of the ground I've done with some people online that I've helped with CFI stuff because it's really about being a teacher, you know, just like right now we teach you how to. You don't want to just sit in the classroom with the table and go start teaching a guy, just looking at him. You want to be able to have something on the table, maybe something on your show, on your iPad, something you've drawn. You have the whiteboard and you're up drawing on the whiteboard. It's all about how you present yourself. So that's what we cover in the CFI section, is helping you prep to become a CFI. And then we've built specific sections on both the R22 and the R44. And these are cool, these are for people flying those aircraft. We go through the pilot's operating handbook for each aircraft and help you learn the things that you need to know. Because as you can imagine, when you're going for your checkride, the examiner knows what helicopter you're flying. He's going to go at you in that specific aircraft. And there's a lot of things that are specific to that aircraft that you're going to have to know. So we built those so that you can go through those sections on the R22 and R44. Really learn the information, the descriptions, different things you need to know about the aircraft. Go over the emergency procedures, normal procedures, limitations, the things that you have to know when you go for your checkride. Not only that you have to know for your checkride, but things you got to know to be safe when you're out there in aircraft to help keep yourself alive. So we have those two things and then I've added one called build you'd online business, which is something new that I've added. What's kind of neat is over the past four years I've met a lot of people and I can think of one guy, for example, he said, hey man, I'm a flight paramedic and I want to start a course on how to be a how to be a flight paramedic. And I wanted to do this online thing and I've had a lot of people approach me in the last four years and I like to teach, I like to help people, but I really and truly stay super busy with this helicopter online ground school. And I don't really have time to go do other people's projects or help them with projects. But over time I've been shooting video of the things I've done to build my business to where it is now. And I'm going to keep adding that because I enjoy what I do. You know, I started out in my pole building with a little flip video camera actually back in my trailer. And not that I'm an expert, but I'm feeling pretty comfortable with the presentations I put together today. And this is all self taught, you know, I've learned these things myself and I started blogging and doing videos five years ago to promote my helicopter company. Before I started the online ground school, I was flying helicopter ems, run a helicopter flight school on the side and you know, it was overwhelming trying to keep those going. And I was struggling with the business end of things, working full time and met a young man named Nick Logan who came there as a new helicopter pilot and became friends. And he was an Internet marketer and he said, you know, you have to take your business and put it online. And that's what started it all. And that's why I'm here five years later. So anyway, so now we'll dig a little bit into how this site works and I'm going to use the Practical Test Standards, which you may have seen in another video that I put out recently. I just like using the Practical Test Standards because it is a large portion of our training and in our old site there's 10 categories and then there's anywhere between three to 23 videos per category. So as a person who's working through it, you know, it could be kind of hard for a person to keep track of where they're at. They take a couple days off, come back and like, oh man, where was I? What I have completed, you could work through it step by step and you could click video to video, but there was no tracking, no way to know what have you watched, have you not watched. So this new system, not only is it mobile friendly and mobile optimized, it is user friendly in the fact that it tracks your progress and shows how much of the video you've watched, whether you've watched any or none. When you're done, it shows completed or you can mark it completed on your own. So you know, you at least have been through that video. You can always come back and watch as many times as you want. But if you're kind of working through and maybe skipping ahead because you want to know about another section, it's very easy to track your progress. So you know, our past members are going to love this or our current members are going to love it. New people coming in are going to love it. I've just been working with it for a couple months and I'm really, really impressed. So the practical test standards, this is what's cool. So I'll give you a little background on how it worked before. So again with the PTS, there's 10 pre flight preparation, pre flight procedures, airport, airport, airport and heliport operations, hovering maneuvers right on the list. So you can imagine there's 10 sections, pre flight preparation, 21 or 22 videos, something like that. So you could imagine how, without tracking, how difficult it might be for somebody. So let's take a look at it. And when it comes up, you can see, you can see all the videos that are underneath that first section. Okay, so there's all the videos. So number one, it's nice that you can see all the videos just like that. Boom. You can see each one, which was harder to see before. You'd only see like a link. Now you can actually see a photo of each picture. And then you can see here, I've been completely all the way through this video. Started watching this one. Looks like just a few seconds, depends on how long the video is. I started watching this one and I haven't worked through any of these others yet, which I'm going to, because I'm going to go through to figure out. Some of them are newer videos, some of them are older. We're going to be, you know, updating, updating videos as time goes by. But so you can see the tracking on what you've watched, how much, and you can just click right to it. So let's go to one that I've already looked at. And here's the beauty. Once it's up, take a look at this. You can already tell I've only watched a little bit, so I know I need to work back through it. But here are the other videos. So when you're ready to go, you want to go back. Say you get through this and go, you know what? I need to hit that one. I haven't been through it yet. You just click on it. Boom. And it takes you back to that video. So you can watch that one. Let's say you want to go back and hit that one again. It's okay, you've already been through it, you can go back again, no problem. Because this is one of the other major improvements that they have made is the video player. They're using a video player that they're telling us is latest, greatest technology, which I totally believe that with our old site, most of the videos worked pretty good. Not too many people had a problem. Once in a while, somebody on a new device or an older device would call and say, hey, I'm struggling with this one video. And it's buffering a little bit or it's sticking, which a lot of the time is slow Internet, which that I can tell you, I watch training and other things that a lot of times will stick. And I know that I've got like super fast Internet speed now and I don't have any of those kind of problems anymore. But anyway, the player is supposed to be so much better, and I believe that. I mean, why wouldn't. In five years of technology with these guys being gurus anyway, and producing some incredible sites, the video player is supposed to be much better. And the videos are in this site. So before we had them housed somewhere else and you had to upload them here or put links and codes and, you know, the new site's going to be nice for me because it's going to save me a lot of time, which frees me up to work on new projects, update old projects, because we have so much going. You probably may or may not know Brian Rutledge, my office, not office, my operations manager, who is in the thick of helicopter flying. He's a law enforcement pilot in California, chief pilot and flight instructor for his aviation unit. I talk with Brian every day, either texting or on the phone, and Brian's sending me projects. And we're just hitting it really, really hard. So we'd love to have you take a look at our new training. If you'd like to go to our new site and go in and kind of plunk around and look at things, download my free book, take a look at that, see what it's all about. Go below. Click the link below this video. It'll take you to our new site so you can go in and take a look around.
