We don't want you to fail your checkride. I failed my first one and I know how much it hurt all these years later. That's why we're doing what we do, helping you get through checkrides. This video series, this is number one of a series of videos we're going to do for people that are say three weeks to a month away from a checkride for this video. This is out there to the public for anyone. Whether you're doing one on one with your instructor or you're doing a lot of home study, you're using our training inside hogs. At this point, you should have been through everything. Now it's time to review and start putting things together and doing last minute stuff. And if you're one of those people, I have right here, written test, get it done. If you're one of these people that you're down to a few weeks away and your written test isn't done, get it done. Okay, so we're going to use two resources today. One top 10 checkride tips and the other private pilot study guide. These are the two things that I told this member when he asked me. He said, hey, you know, I'm a few weeks away. I know this gentleman, he's actually been here to the hangar. We've done a video together. I said, Top 10 checkride tips. If you don't have a copy, grab one. It's a very simple book. It's called top 10. But Taz Christman and I put this together and I'm telling you, he's been CFI 25 years, I've been 21 years. So our 46 years of experience put together on things we see people mess up, we're going to cover the first chapter in this. Okay. And then we're going to test your knowledge on certificates and documents out of the study guide. So let's get rolling. So the first chapter, chapter one in here from top ten checkride tips start three weeks in advance. Okay, so that fits the series. This is for people that are approaching the checkride. Getting ready. I'm going to talk to you as you're a ground school member, you can be studying whatever form is working for you. But if you're a ground school member, you should have went through 100% of all the Hogs videos and be going back now to refresh on any areas that you feel like you may be lacking. I have to say I harp this in videos all the time. Pts. Pts. Pts. Yes. Eventually it will be called the Airman certification Standards. It's not yet for helicopters. As the making of this video, I'm going to ask you five questions. If you're watching this video, take the time to write it down. I'll go kind of slow. I'll go through the questions, I want you to think about it and then we'll go back and get the answers. We are starting with certificates and documents, chapter one of the study guide because this is where the checkride is going to start. What is the definition of night? I've seen people mess this up over and over again. Can't stress enough going over this basic stuff. There's a lot to the night, so spend the time on it. What is the definition of night? Next. Do you use the main fuel tank capacity or fuel capacity for pre flight planning? Good question. Do you use the main fuel tank capacity or usable fuel capacity for pre flight planning? In the world of flight training now a lot of you are getting the benefit of being able to do some of these things with an electronic version versus the old way where we spent hours and hours and hours doing the old fashioned cross country way. So all the more reason to make sure you're up on the cross country stuff just because you might be able to use an electronic version for your cross country flight planning. There are still the questions that the examiner is going to ask you across the table that if you don't answer them correctly, you don't even get in the helicopter to go fly and you get sent home like I did. And let me tell you, that is not a good feeling. Next question. What is standard empty weight? Answer this as though you're sitting across the table from the examiner the day of your checkride? What are you verbally going to say to the examiner when he, if, if he asks you what is standard empty weight, wants to know a basic definition of what that is? Understanding weight and balance is crucial for private pilot, commercial pilot, all the way across the board because as you burn fuel throughout that flight, things happen. CD changes, cg. I say CD CG changes, you have to be aware of what's going on. So all of the weight and balance stuff is super, super important. Okay, next question. This is if you move and have a change of address. So if you have a change of address, if you fail to notify the faa, can you still exercise the privileges of your pilot certificate? So this is a follow up question in the study guide for if you change your permanent mailing address, how long do you have them notify the faa? So let's throw that in there too. Do you know, if you change your permanent mailing address, how long do you have to notify the faa? And then this question. If you fail to notify the faa, can you still exercise the privileges of your private pilot certificate? So if the examiner asks you how can you as the pilot adjust the CG location right during your weight and balance, you're figuring out what's going on with cg. Normally you figure full of fuel, empty fuel, so you can see what goes on with that CG during flight. What are you going to say to the examiner if the examiner asks you how can you as the pilot, adjust the CG location? I'll give you a hint on that when I give you a real world example. When I flew in one certain type of environment with a aircraft, a helicopter, we went out and normally picked up cargo, moved cargo from point A to point B. We had people and equipment in the back. If we picked up cargo that was heavier than what we were originally told, in which we figured a weight and balance for if the rear of the aircraft was a little bit too heavy, we had one basket of equipment that could easily be removed, like unsnapped removed, and another weight balance scenario ready to refigure. When we remove some equipment so that we could take the cargo, move the cg, there's a hint. So there's several ways that you could move a cg. So let's run through the questions and answers. What is the definition of knight? The time between the end of evening civil twilight and the beginning of morning civil twilight as published in the Air Almanac, converted to local time. I dare you to repeat that really fast like four times. Do you use the main fuel tank capacity or usable fuel capacity for pre flight planning? The answer is always use usable fuel capacity. What is standard empty weight? It's a standard aircraft, full operational fluids, oil and unusable fuel. If you fail to notify the faa, can you still exercise the privileges of your private pilot certificate? The answer is no if you haven't notified them in the correct time frame of your permanent change. How can you as the pilot adjust CG location, move people, baggage, or how much fuel you put on board the aircraft? So how well did you do? How well did you answer? Did you snap right through those, or did you struggle in any of those questions? There's 42 of those just in the certificates and documents section, which we just went through. That's where the checkride majority of the time starts. They start asking you all those questions from certificates and documents. You want to start the checkride out. You want to nail that stuff for sure. So the theme was today was start three weeks in advance with all of this gathering stuff, reviewing, putting last minute things together. If you'd like a copy the private pilot study guide, we'll put a link for that down below. There's a free version in a PDF which if you sign up for that, you'll get notified of the other videos coming out through email, which is kind of handy. We're currently offering the physical copy of TEP of top 10 checkride tips. There's a bonus section in here on top of the 10 questions. Taz went out and interviewed examiners in the Las Vegas area and asked the examiners, what are you seeing? People mess up on checkrides. So there's a whole bonus section in here that goes beyond the top 10. This is good stuff. I'll put a link down that below the video where we can have Heather send you a copy. We bought the books. We have a box of them. When they're gone, they're gone. Heather will ship these to you. So I'll put a link down below, you cover the shipping and handling again within the us we're looking at maybe an international option for later, but the international shipping has went crazy and causes us lots of problems. So I hope that helps a little bit if you're new to us. Right behind me is what we call the Hogs Wall of Fame. Great big old wall back there. We're really proud of that. 200 and forget. We got a couple more ready to go up. When Heather's here tomorrow, we do another video. So what can I tell you? We've been at this a long time. Our ground school memberships will put a link down below for that as well. You can always talk to Heather. You can text or call her at 574-767-1797. She's been with us almost five years now. She can talk the lingo with you on memberships and pretty much about anything that revolves around helicopter land, ground school. Put the physical copy link down there. We'll put a link down here for both the PDF we give away. Let me rephrase that. We're giving away chapter one as a PDF for the study guide. So put a link down below where it gives you two options, the free PDF and or the physical copy. The cool thing about the free PDF, you have to sign up for it. We'll send it to your email and then you'll get notification of the next videos that come out over the next. We'll have them done within the two weeks because we want to get these out for our member that's going through his last several weeks of getting ready. You want to get all these videos out, so all those links are below. Keep studying and we'll see the next video.
