Owning A Enstrom Helicopter

Kenny Keller has owned an Enstrom helicopter for three years and loves it. He credits the heavy-inertia rotor system and excellent autorotation for the aircraft's safety, and stresses that proper maintenance makes all the difference between a great helicopter and a problematic one.

That'll be a good one. Okay. What's it like owning an instrument helicopter? A question asked by one of our subscribers is what it's like owning an Instrum. And I talk very highly of the instrument. I've had this one about three years. I've been flying instruments for 10 years and super fast story. I started flying instruments, training in them. I flew one in Cleveland and it was like a 95 model. And there was only two of them made in 95. And the one that I flew didn't necessarily get all the proper maintenance that it should have gotten. And we were calling it the piece of shit instrument all the time. And when I came back home, local place I went to work for, had the other Instrum made in the same year, had low hours on it, got all the maintenance it needed, it was at an Instrum service center, had great mechanics working on it. And when I started flying that one, I soon realized that the Instrum is a great helicopter if it's getting the proper maintenance. The problem is, like any aircraft, if you don't maintain it properly, you're going to have trouble. So since that time, that changed my total view on the instrument. Had this one three years, like I said. And the instruments are a great helicopter. I've been lucky enough to train in all of them. The Schweitzer, the Robinson, a little bit of everything. And they're all great aircraft. I say this over and over again, but the nstrom for me, I like the heavy inertia rotor system. It can't be beat for the auto rotation. It's auto rotation is just incredible. And now that I've had everything done to this one that I've felt like it needed and been able to, to keep things up on it, it's running better than I've ever that it ever has since I've owned it. And it pretty much goes through inspection, inspection without too many problems. And I'm just thrilled to pieces to own such a great aircraft. So my opinion, owning an instrument is they're awesome helicopters if they're properly maintained. And the other plug on the instrument is it has a baggage compartment. If you want to go somewhere and stay all night, you can take a bag with you. If you're going to a check ride, you're sending two guys that are going, maybe one guy is a commercial guy and the other guy's going for a private. They can put their overnight bags in there. They got room to put them in the baggage. You got room for one pilot plus two people depending on the size. If you take the center controls out, there's just a lot of advantages to the bigger aircraft. So what's it like owning an instrument? Owning an instrument is pretty much awesome. So there's your answer for what it's like owning an instrument. Thanks, and we'll see you later.
