Private Pilot Airman Certification Standards (ACS) **MUST UTILIZE**

Kenny Keller explains the Airman Certification Standards, which replaced the Practical Test Standards on May 31, 2024. You need to use the ACS and its Practical Test Checklist to prepare for your private pilot checkride, starting at least three weeks out. Skipping it risks wasting money and flunking the test.

All right, welcome to hogs. Starting off, we're going to talk about the new acs. What we've been using for years was called the practical test standards. May 31, 2024, this went into effect. So you're going to hear the term the Practical Test Standards throughout our training. Hogs has 650 videos total, over a thousand on YouTube. I've probably said the term PTS 5 million times in 12, 13 years. This is now what we're using. This replaces the Practical Test Standards. This is called the acs, the Airman Certification Standards. So what I want to let you know is there's no physical possible way for me to go back and change 1600 videos where I've said the PTS. Okay? So going through the courses, know that when I say pts, we're talking about now the acs. And there isn't really any big changes. People made a big deal out of this. But very simply, this is your guideline for getting ready for the private pilot test. We're going to put this on the private pilot course and the instrument course. You need one of these as a student. Your instructor needs one of these as your instructor. And you should be preparing with this as you're preparing to take your checkride. And I can tell you from my 25 years of experience now, people don't want to use this. Don't be intimidated by it. The first half of the book is going to go over the oral areas that you're going to be cover on the oral test. Your instructor needs to sit down with you or you yourself or both. And you need to go page by page, line by line. And this is how you're going to be prepared and know that you're going to have the knowledge. We've seen some people showing up for checkrides lately where they tell us they're ready. Once I start asking questions from here, they very quickly realize that they're not ready. Okay, so what you need to know is you need to be working through these for all of your ratings. And there's one most important page and it's clear to the back of the book. It used to be in the beginning of the book in the pts and it is called the Practical Test Checklist. And the examiner I've been using for going on 25 years now, he pointed this out when I was a brand new cfi. I said, hey, give me some tips as a new cfi. And he said, go to that page. And then the pts, it's now the acs, go to that page and Work through your students to make sure they have everything they're going to need the day of the test. If you have you're missing any one of these items, you're not even going to be able to take the oral test. Checkride's over and you got to go home. You may have flown somewhere to take this checkride. So you will spend hundreds or thousands of dollars that didn't need to be spent because you weren't prepared because you didn't go through the ACS and didn't go through that checklist at the back of the book of what you need to have with you the day of the test. So again, I can't stress enough as you're working through these courses preparing for the rating, I would start using this three weeks in advance of your check ride even before that. In my opinion, I think this should be introduced to you very early in your training so that you can start being prepared for what the day of this test is going to be like. Because that's everything that you're doing. It's all about the checkride. It's all about trying to pass that oral and practical test so you can get your license and go home happy that day. If you're not properly using this, you're probably going to go on go home unhappy. And nobody wants that. So trust me, Airman certification standards, it's what you need to be using. See you in the next video.
