Interested in a self test? Getting ready for your private pilot checkride? We're going to deep dive into the Private Pilot Study guide in a series of videos. Starting off, I'm going to give you a closer look inside. We're going to sit down and take a look at it right now. Live to fly another day helicopterground.com this private pilot study guide is a spiral bound notebook. We designed it this way so that you can open it up flat on the desk or the table and and work through it, be able to go in, write your own answers in. So let's take a look at the chapters we have Chapter A Certificates and Documents. Chapter B, Airworthiness Requirements. Chapter C, Weather Information D Cross Country. Chapter E, Airspace Chapter F, Performance Limitations G Operations of Systems H Aeromedical Factors and the last chapter, General Aerodynamics. So as you have been able to see, there's a tab for each chapter along the edge for quick reference. Let's take a look at the very beginning to see what's inside. First off, table of contents showing each chapter and the page number. Then we have an introduction page from Brian Rutledge, our operations manager who put this book together. He spent over three months building this study guide. He's then put in a section for definitions and abbreviations. This is a great section for you to review. Overview page where Brian's explaining how this book follows the practical test standards. So, so as of now it's still called the Practical Test standards. It soon will become the Airman Certification standards. So it's super important if you're not working through the pts yet, you need to be before the checkride, especially down to several weeks before the checkride. And he also points out in here, same thing that I say, don't overlook what you need the day of the test. This is the biggest battle for people is making sure you have every single document, everything signed, T's crossed, I's dotted, all the stuff that you have to have all the paperwork. It's quite consuming the amount of time you spend just making sure you have every little thing. But if you don't, the checkride is not even going to get started. Bottom line, there is a whole ton of information that you have to know to become a private pilot. In the day of the checkride you're going to sit down with the examiner, he or she is going to ask you a series of questions. You have to get through that oral portion before you ever get to go do the flight. We're going to go through a series of videos. As I stated we're going to sample the Private Pilot study guide and give you some tips along the way in this series of videos of what you should be doing the last several weeks preparing. As you're getting close, what should you be thinking about? So for our members, our helicopter line grad school members, we tell them, make sure you go through 100% of the videos because there is a ton of content. 18 lessons. There are now quizzes at the end of each lesson of the 18 lessons inside private Pilot that has multiple videos, there's a quiz at the end of each of those lessons and then there's an FAA written test practice at the end of the course. So making sure that you go through the whole entire course, all the videos take the quizzes. Do the FAA written test practice. We know from 10 years of successful checkrides with our members. You see them back there on the Hogswell of Fame behind me. The ones who absolutely aced their checkrides tell us they watch the entire private pilot course at least once, if not two or three times. Everyone's different, everyone learns at a different pace. So it depends on how fast you go through it, how well you retain information. It's going to depend on each one of you individually. But going through the full entire course is really key because you might miss a nugget or two here or there things that are just super important. So again, go through all the HOGS videos. Hopefully you're already working through the PTS if you're several weeks away. If you're not, now's the time to get your copy. Whether you order one and get the physical copy for your hand, you can go on the FAA website and download a PDF for free. It's not an expensive book if you want the paperback, but get a copy of the Practical Test standards and when it changes to the ACS Air Mass certification standards, you'll want that copy versus the pts. Something you can do next. If you don't have a copy of the Private Pilot study Guide, we're going to offer you something cool in this series of videos. Free PDF download of the first chapter. We're not giving you the whole entire thing. If you'd like to sample it, go down below and there is a link to download the first chapter, which is what I just showed you. And that first chapter is certificates and documents and trust me, the beginning of the checkride, they almost always start out with certificates and documents. What do you have to have on you to go fly? What do you have to do to keep your license? Current flight reviews There's a whole bunch of things that you have to do in order to be current, keep your license current and operate as a pilot in command. And that's where these questions start. And you'll learn those things early on in your training. And I worry that sometimes people think, oh, that stuff's easy, I'll remember it. Over the years I've watched people struggle. As soon as that checkride starts, you get stumped on where you got to be current at night. You have to have on you to be legal to fly. It's pretty long list. So you can sample that again in the free PDF down below. So I firsthand know where people make mistakes and a lot of the times it's the really simple stuff, it's not the super complicated stuff that bites people because usually they study that so hard that they overlook the basics and get tripped up on a basic question during the oral test. So sign up below to get the free Chapter 1 PDF in the description below the video. There will also be a link down there for the actual physical copy. The spiral bound notebook, you know, one more time. We designed it this way so that you could open it up on a table because I like to be able to have a book open, lay it out, be able to work through it. It lays nice and flat. And what we did with each of those chapters, I showed you the first half of the chapter. There's space to write in how you want to answer the question. And the best way to do this, use this book example certificates and documents, go through the questions. It's your physical book, write it down. And the free PDF that's available down below, you could print that off if you wanted to and sit and write your own answers in if you choose to. Again, it's a great sample to see one of the nine chapters and how it's laid out. And then we have this second half of each chapter is the same question repeated with the correct answer listed. So the idea is you go through, if you really want a legitimate self test, go through every single question before you peek at the answers. Brian Rutledge is the most detailed, oriented helicopter pilot I have ever seen and he spent so much time going through the practical test standards, finding questions under each category and going through and thinking of things that an examiner could ask you. So this is super detailed. By the time you get through the first half of each chapter, you're going to have a pretty good idea on how well are you answering or how well are you not answering and then going to the of course the correct questions is going to even be an even better test to see how well you're doing. So we'll look forward to seeing you in the next video again. Sign up down below for the free PDF. We'll send you an email out for the next video so you can follow along. The first one that we're going to go through is certificates and documents. As I've already mentioned, it's the free PDF that you'll have so you have a chance to download it before we go live with that video. And we're going to give you some more tips in these next videos as we cover the different chapters on going through doing a self test and throw in more things that we've seen over the years that people mess up on a checkride. So sign up down below and we'll see in the next video. Peace out.
