Should I Switch? Schweizer to Enstrom?

Kenny Keller compares the Schweizer trainer to the Enstrom for private pilots. The Enstrom offers more room, a baggage area, and greater comfort, making it an upgrade, though Keller still calls the Schweizer a great trainer.

Do you have a minute to chat about instruments? I'm debating moving from my 321, which he would be referring to a Schweitzer. I would love an unbiased view. I thought this great topic for a video I could just shoot real quick because it's an easy answer for me and no, I'm not a Schweitzer hater. The Schweitzer is a cool little helicopter, been used forever. Military used it for years. That design time tested, proven trainer. But to his question as a private owner, and I know he's a new private pilot, he's actually one of our professional pilot members. You could become one of those down below at the link below. But he's a private pilot member or he's a private new private pilot. I say easy go for the instrument. And the reason I say that is it to me it is an upgrade. Going to the instrument again, I'm not bashing the Switzer, so don't think I'm a Schweitzer hater, because I'm not. I trained in the Schweitzer myself many years ago out in the beginning. What I know now from flying both Schweitzers and Instroms, Schweitzer is a great little tra. Great little trainer. It's slow, doesn't go very fast, has no baggage area whatsoever. And when you compare to the Instrum, that's a bigger helicopter, heavier rotor system, nice baggage area, the comfort level of it, more room in the cabin. To me, it's an easy answer. Again, I would have if I could. I got a big enough hangar, I'd have a Schweitzer and an Enstrom and a Jet Ranger, and I'd have a whole load of them if I had the money to blow and just buy helicopters. Right? Every helicopter has its own pros and cons. But for this gentleman, being a private owner, I'm sorry, a private pilot who's got his rating and wants to move up, I say go for the instrument. I don't think there's even really any doubt. And it's again, I say it's unbiased because I've flown both, I've trained in both, I've taught in both. One has a specific purpose. It's a great trainer. The instrument to me is just kind of an upgrade. Again, bigger helicopter, more roomy cabin, baggage area in the back is. It's a big deal. If you're just doing training, you don't really need to carry much. Switzer's great. But if you're a private pilot or above and you want to go somewhere overnight. You got plenty of room to put an overnight bag and a tool kit and some paper towels and some oil. You have place to put stuff big when you're wanting to travel and go somewhere in helicopter. So that's my quick easy answer. You know, all helicopters have pros and cons. Private Pilot 101 this is a free download below. This is our Amazon bestseller we put out in2024. Really proud of it.
