How do we track fuel on the helicopter? With a timer.
Tracking fuel with a timer is crucial for safe helicopter operations. Here's the deal. When you start the engine, you need to start that timer immediately. Know your helicopter's fuel burn rate per hour. For example, if you're burning 8 gallons an hour, you can break it down to 2 gallons every 15 minutes. This way you can keep a close eye on your fuel consumption throughout the flight, whether you're using a watch, a clock in the aircraft, or a fancy fuel meter. The key is consistency and accuracy in tracking your time and fuel usage. It's a simple yet effective method to ensure you don't run into any fuel related issues while flying. Have you ever used a timer for fuel tracking before or is this.
As a matter of fact, yes, we use our watches. But I'm going to have Lindsay bring the camera over and show you how we do it in the R44. I have people coming in here rated pilots coming from other places to work on advanced ratings. They do their startup and they don't start the timer. Right here is this tool. You should be tracking your fuel by the hour as the clone just told us. And this is very easy. During your start you get the engine running and this particular helicopter boom. Start your timer. Bam. Engage clutch. So start engine. Boom. It's that easy. And so many people don't start it and aren't utilizing this. And then they're doing their whole flight basing what they're doing on fuel gauges that can malfunction and can be off if you know how much fuel is in your tank, which most likely you've put fuel in yourself or you had Lime service put fuel in, you know what you put in the tanks. This is the best way to keep track of how much fuel you're burning and then just use the gauge as a backup to what you know that the aircraft should be burning. So not using the timer is really a big mistake. Yeah. And we'll have a lot of fuel to burn and a lot of fuel management to do.
