So you guys just let me know if somebody asked a question and let me know when we're live. Looks like you're live. Let us know in the comments if we're really live. We haven't done a YouTube live in several months and every time we do this it seems like YouTube has changed something. So let us know. And let us know by asking a question. We're going to give you a free book right now. We're going to give away a free book to the first person. Ask a legitimate helicopter flight or ground training question in the comments and I'll kind of bring up a couple of things that we got going on. We're going to this every day for the next 14 days. We're going to give away a copy of Private Pilot 101 helicopter training blueprint. Gonna do this each day through a video. Whether we're live. We may do some premieres. Either way it'll be either in live chat or in the live chat on the premiere when the video comes out. But each day we're going to be answering your questions. So type them in. What regardless of the time of day you see this video, type in so that we can pick through and answer the most asked questions. We're also going to oh to mention you can get a free copy of this at private pilot. Whoops privateblueprint.com you can get a free PDF of this right now. And the beauty if you go there and sign up and download the book, you can download immediately. You'll be in our email list so you'll be notified of the giveaway for each day and the time and what we're going to be talking about. Or subscribe to the YouTube channel. Subscribe the channel. You'll get notification when the new video comes out for either the live or the premiere, whichever way we do it. And then we want to also bring up we are updating and starting to update our R22 specific course behind us. Course behind us. Course using the helicopter behind us. Lindsey's in charge of getting in there and updating some images. In the R22 site section of Hogs we have R22 specific section and an R44 specific section that come with any of our memberships, so you don't have to buy that specifically. We use Private Pilot, for example, monthly membership. It has both the R22 and R44 sections in there. And since we have an R22 available to us and an R44 available to us, we thought why not get the content updated in those courses with some fresh videos, fresh images and something else we've got going on is a 50% off instructor time, our instructor time. It's not cheap because you're getting exclusive one on one training. We don't do the basic old Bob, Marion, Fred at 2, 10 and 4. We do exclusive training to you the entire day that you're here. That's 50% off that instructor time. For anybody that schedules training, that the training is going to take place between now and January 20th. Why are we doing that? Because it's the slow time of year. Christmas is here, we got two aircraft and a lot of people going, well, I want to, well I'm gonna. Well after Christmas. Well that's when everybody's going to start wanting those times. So to speed the process along, we need to get some workbook for these helicopters. Both of them are sitting, currently not flying and they're both ready to go. So reach out to Hogsmember support 574-767-1797. If you'd like to get on the schedule for some training. We specialize in checkrides, finish the people up. But we can also do, you know, SFAR checkouts. Again, you can come in for one day, two days, whatever you need or you need a block of time. We'd even be willing to work your little deal this time of the year to get some time on these aircraft. So again, reach out to Hogsmember support 574-767-1797. Do we have any questions? I see Lindsey raising her hand.
Rick C. Good afternoon. I am 57 years old, retired and active. The problem is I am in heart failure, but it is controlled. Does this fact preclude my, preclude me from ever getting a solo license or would I need to fly with another pic?
That is a great question and the simple answer is anytime you're interested in flying and you've got some type of a condition like that, you need to go see what's called a aviation medical examiner. And you can google to see where you could find aviation medical examiners close to you and make an appointment and you go see one of them and have a talk with them. Because there are a lot of things a person can have wrong with them and still possibly get a medical certificate. A very small amount of people get turned down for medical certificates. There are guys that are flying professionally that have heart stints and others other issues. Right. So I as a non medical person can't advise you on whether you could get one or not. However, I strongly urge you to at least check it out. You have the interest in flying and I wouldn't, I wouldn't give up that dream without at least going and talking to an aviation medical examiner. Examiner first. The medical examiner, one of them that I use for many years, recently retired. But every year he would tell me. People are always so worried about whether they're going to pass or not. Almost nobody fails and people are surprised at the different things that you could have going on with you. And as long as it's controlled and you're under a doctor's care, many times you can receive a medical so you get the book. First one to ask a question, email heatherelicopterground.com with your email address and your physical location. I'm going to sign it for you and Heather will ship this book out to you. So hell yeah, we got our first one by the time I got our intro done. Any other questions that's coming since we got a few. All right, what's next?
CNC Equipment claims that they recently tried to call. They're starting from scratch with no knowledge and need to know what the best route route route is for their journey.
Just starting out first right here is free free PDF private pilot 101 helicopter training blueprint. That's why we created this and let me cover what's in the first chapter since you ask and you're at the beginning. That's why we created this. The first chapter are questions that we've we took like the top 10 questions that we get all the time like is learning how to fly a helicopter difficult? How long will it take to become a private pilot? How much will it cost to become a private pilot? What is the best approach to selecting a flight school? What are the key differences between helicopters and fixed wing aircraft? How many tests will I have to take? How many hours for solo on the license? Kenny's recommended training supplies so this is absolutely 100% free. You can go down below. There's a link down below or you can type in your browser privateblueprint.com and you can download immediately after you sign up. You'll sign up, enter your name and email and the next page will show you download your book here. That's where you should start because again it's free.
CNC replied and said that he did read the book.
Oh he did read the book. Okay good. All right. Well that's helpful for anybody that's just brand new started. So you've already read the book then I would get your introductory flight does he did he mention introductory flight or not? I would absolutely schedule the introductory flight and also look at getting your medical certificate if you haven't yet. In the event you have any type of a medical issue. At least if you go in early and find out if there's anything that's going to hold up getting a medical, you can work on getting that corrected. And you have plenty of time to start your training because you won't technically have to have it until you solo, but you'll need it to really, you know, get into the training. So I would right off the bat go look at getting a student pilot certificate, medical certificate, and I would schedule the introductory flight and go give it a try. If you haven't started yet, you haven't flown yet, go make sure it's something that you're going to be interested in. I don't think that you're going to be disappointed. I've never had anybody that went, ah, you know what, it's just not for me. Right. I'm sure there are some people that have said that, but most people walk away going, oh my God, I got to figure out a way to get started and move towards this goal. So that would be my next step. You've read that book. I would get an introductory flight, go out, give it a try and then our business is helicopter land ground school. That's what we do for all these ratings in our private pilot course. We walk you through it step by step. The ground knowledge and of course we have tons of free stuff. You're on YouTube now. Our YouTube channel has over 1200 videos. We have podcasts and blogs. @helopterground.com we have an insurmountable of free stuff that you can consume. I say get introductory flight scheduled and go give it a try. Sign up for HOGS and start learning. Start going through the video step by step and you'll be well on your way to making that reality next Oscar.
I am a CFII helicopter pilot with about 350 hours in the R22 plus Robert. He recently completed the Robinson safety course in July.
Nice.
He gave his weight and he has not been able to find a decent entry level job. He's been cold called by schools applying to dozens of places. Wants to know if he is doing anything wrong or if that's normal for someone just trying to get an entry level job. And what advice would you be able to give?
That's a phenomenal question. I know to get my start took a little bit right? Like I became a new, I was brand new CFI and The school that I did all my training at didn't need anybody at that time and I started, you know, applying different places and luckily within a few months the school where I trained had an instructor leave to move on another job and I got a position there. So if you're advertising and you're not getting any jobs, you, you got to stay after it. Number one, we hear this, but we also hear there are plenty of jobs out there. Since you tuned in here, I'll do you a favor. Send us your resume in one of our next emails. I'll share it with our list of about 6,400 people on our email list and see who's looking for an instructor. We actually may be very shortly here looking for a CFI to help us out at hogs. Everybody that we're that flies with us as other full time jobs and things as we ramp up, we might be looking for somebody in the near future. So send us your resume but keep at it, you know, keep networking, keep talking to people. I know like in law enforcement, you know, I was a police officer and same thing there. It was like you got to keep applying, keep trying until you get there. What else advice could I give? You got to stay after it. Now, I don't know what you could be doing wrong. And since you ask and you're here, send me that resume and let me take a look at it and just send it. Send it to me@kennyelicopterground.com and let me take a look at your resume and I'll do what I can to help maybe move the process along. What I tell people, I mean you're already there at CFI double I, which makes you even more marketable because most people just get their CFI and start teaching. Most people applying aren't normally double I, but when I tell people, you know, you have to obviously present yourself well, you got to go after it, you got to talk to people, you got to be aggressive. I know I got my first job because I trained there. But then 911 happened shortly after and that flight school was doing nothing afterwards. And so I started looking for a job to because I could continue flying. Nobody in the country's hiring at that time and I should start a contact in every single helicopter flight school in our state or the surrounding states. All 1, 2, 3, 4 I could think of. I just went online and this is clear back in the early 2000s and I just started contacting every single helicopter company that was in a five state area that I could drive to fairly Easy with an interview because usually you're a new CFI and you don't have a lot of money. So I wanted to get something where I could at least drive to an interview. And I just started emailing, emailing, emailing, emailing, and telling them who I was. I was ready to get my career going, told them my background, and I was looking for my start. So off the top of my head, that's the best tips I can think of, is just keep after it, keep talking to many people as you can, and don't give up. You've gotten this far. And again, send me your resume@kennyelicoperground.com and I'll take a look at it and we'll. We'll put a plug out there for you to our email list. Might jumpstart your career and. And who knows anything else.
This one might be a little personal, but it's from Rocks, 1989, and he wants to know if you're familiar with a mat or a mic out of Utah.
I am. I am familiar with Mike Patey, and I did a video highlighting one of his videos, and I thought it was one of the coolest things that I've ever seen. He did a video about how he does something called three strikes and you're out. And he's an experienced pilot with all these years of experience. And of course, there's lots of ways out there to do risk assessment, and most of them are kind of complicated. And you'll have eight or ten questions and you got it through, and you got to score this and score this and score that and add your score and go to this paper. Kind of a complicated process. And he came up with something he calls three strikes and you're out. And I just came across one of his videos, and I, for whatever reason, the thumbnail got me, the title got me. I think it was something like, I lost three friends in the last 30 days or 90 days or something to accidents. And so he talks about how three strikes and you're out means, oh, you're planning a flight, it's nighttime. Out. Strike one, I'm a little bit tired. Strike two, there's something on the aircraft that's not grounding it, but it's. There's something on there that needs fixed. Strike three, I'm out. I'm not going. And the thinking was, I thought was phenomenal. It was. It's a super simple way of him saying, if you're not 100%, the aircraft's not 100%, and you don't feel like it's going to be the best flight you can have. That's it, I'm not going. And anyway, he goes on and tells the deep story how he'd lost some friends from different things that happened. And so I am familiar with Mike Patey in that respect and that's all I know. But I know that I really, really enjoyed when of the videos that I saw from him and I thought it was amazing. And again, I, I can't tell you what the title it is, but I just talked about this a little bit in depth. I show the clip from his video and just wanted to share that with people that I thought it was pretty phenomenal.
Well, he tacked on to the question. He was just curious if he knew about his new airport that he was building. But we do have a very good helicopter related question.
Okay.
From the down under.
Nice.
From Australia, Australia, John Donaldson. He is a student on his sixth lesson on the R44.
Okay.
Struggling with hovering.
That is a great question and we hear that a lot. If you're struggling, struggling, struggling to talk like me, struggling to hover at six hours, don't even sweat it. Hovering takes a little bit to pick up on. I tell people when they go, how long do you do you think before it even starts to kind of come together? And I usually say it takes five or six hours just to kind of start getting there. So if you're at six hours and your hover isn't exactly where you want it, I wouldn't even stress. I would keep flying. Like when I start with somebody brand new, that first five to six hours, let's say we go out for an hour, maybe a half an hour of that is hovering. In the other half of that, we go out and we do a little bit of the pattern, start practicing takeoffs and landings or we go do some straight and level and do some turns. Because a lot of times if somebody is trying to get you to hover in the first four or five or six lessons and that's all you're doing, it gets completely stressful, you get wore out. I don't know what's happening with you and your instructor, but if you're struggling at six hours, I would just keep going, keep going back to the lessons, try to relax and know that when it comes and when it happens, the light bulb comes on, you're struggling, you're struggling, you're struggling. And then all of a sudden one day you go, hey, I'm hovering. And your instructor's going, yeah, you are and you're going. And I'm talking to you and chewing gum at the same time. He's like going, yeah, good job. Right? Like. So just stay after it. Don't stress if it's not great at six hours. Most people aren't good at hovering at six hours. I would totally, 100%, don't stress over it. Keep moving forward. And here's a super simple tip for you. It's so simple, and it's called breathe in and out. And I say that and it sounds simple. But what people do, they're in a helicopter and whatever maneuver you're working on, hovering autos, whatever, same thing you, you get in there and you're not breathing. You have a monster grip on the controls. You're pushing hard in the pedals, and you're barely just got any air going in and out of your nose and your mouth. When you're out there and you're doing the hovering, you have to remember to breathe. Great, big, deep breaths. Exhale slowly. Breathe in and out. And I've seen it a thousand times in 24 years of training people where they're struggling. And I look over and I can tell they're just. They're all hunched over, they got the monster grip and they're not breathing. I'll go breathe. They're like, I am breathing. I'm like, no, you're not. I mean, breathe. Big, deep breath. Do it now. Okay, Exhale. Do it again. Right? And you got to force people to actually breathe in and out. And you'd be amazed at how, what, whatever maneuver you're working on, how quickly things smooth out and get a little bit better when you get people to breathe in and out. Those are my best, kind of my best tips for. At six hours, I wouldn't even stress. I. I just keep going. Anything else? All right, well, that was pretty good for. We only put out an email about an hour ago. Keep coming back each day because we're going to do this for the next 14 days. And we want to know, what are your struggles? What are you looking at? We're the end of 24. 2024. Going into 2025, we have our normal basic questions that we've seen for years, but we thought today, let's ask, what people? What are they struggling with now? End of 2024, going into 2025, what are your hurdles? What are your struggles? What are the things that you're thinking about or you're worrying about or maybe even losing sleepover regarding your flight or ground training? And remember, we got this for you completely for free PDF. We're going to give another one each day. I'll sign them for you. So the winner today. Heather. Heather. Email heatherelicopterground.com 14 days. We have 40% off Helicopter Island Ground school. You can go below to the link helicopterground.com for private pilot, instrument pilot, commercial pilot, certified flight instructor and Pro pilot. Everything's 40% off until January 1st. And that includes the monthlies. If you just want to go the monthly option, 40% off. And that's as long as you keep the course. If you keep it for one month or you keep it for 18 months, it's going to stay 40% off, which is a smoking hot deal because it's. The normal price is 97amonth. So you're going to get 40% off. It stays there for as long as you keep the course and the monthlies. You can cancel anytime, come back anytime. We've got yearly options and then we have our Pro Pilot special. The Pro Pilot is everything. Private, commercial, instrument, cfi, all the courses, unlimited. It doesn't expire, so it's going to be there. No matter how long it takes you to get through the ratings, whether it's six months or four years, the training is going to be there and you can work through the different ratings at your own pace. And by using hogs, it can save you a ton of money because normally you're going to be paying instructor, you know, 50 to 100 an hour to teach you subjects, and you have to do a certain amount of that to prove to your instructor you have the knowledge. But with Hogs, you can go in and watch 24 hours a day, seven days a week from an iPad, laptop, desktop, mobile phone, whatever you want to use. We have not only video courses for all those ratings, there's quizzes in each lesson, and then there's also FAA written test practice at the end of the course that is available for FAA wings credit. If you have any questions at all, you can reach out to Hogsmember support 574-767-1797. Remember, we got R22 and R44. I mentioned 40% off. Nope, 50% off instructor time. So we charge per day. We're splitting that 50% and that's whether you need three days or five days or seven days to finish up your rating or do your sfar, whatever it is you need to work on. 50% off the instructor rate. But that's for somebody that wants to get their time scheduled, get it on the books and get that time scheduled before January 20th. 50% off the instructor time. If we have any other questions, we're gonna check out kind of. Well, kind of question.
Kind of a question. It's again from Rocks, 1989. I'm gonna kind of create the question for him, since he has plenty put in the context that he wants to ask this, but he wants to know a good way, so he's going back into studying his ground. So what's a good way for him to study? Would you recommend notes or the website or flashcards?
Well, number one, without being a salesman, airman certification standards. Are you looking at that? Are you not looking at it? And if you're not, you should be in the acs, going through it page by page, step by step, and going, okay, do I know the material? Start at the very beginning and just start working through it. Because to get through your checkride, the examiner is going to propose a checkride in an oral and flight built off the ACs. That's how they do the test. And all examiners are supposed to be on the same page. The FAA wants them to give fairly similar checkrides, and they're all drawing from the acs. And like our examiner that comes here, he brings in what he calls his plan of action, and he shows it to you, and he says, this is the acs. However, it's my plan of action. I've taken everything out of the ACS and organized it in my book for my intents and purposes. And I've added any questions that you may have missed on the FAA written test, I've added those to the action plan or the plan of action. So a number one, if you, regardless of what stage you're at, when you're ready to refresh or upgrade or, you know, start getting your knowledge where it should be and start preparing for a test, you should, hands down, 100%, be going through the airman certification standards. And I can tell you I've been seeing it for 24 years. Instructors, let me give credit to the instructors that are using it. Good for you. The flight schools that are using them. Good for you. Plenty. Plenty of them are. But I'd say a good portion of them aren't, because we train people from around the country, and they'll come here and I'll go, so you've been working through the acs. You know, get that deer in the headlight look. And I'll go, what, do you have one? Oh, well, yeah, I think I got one. I'm like, okay, we'll get it out. Oh, well, I think it's of an iPad or. Oh, let me. Oh, I left it at the hotel. Right. It's a lot not priority for a lot of people or they don't even have one. Or they pull it out and it's all nice and pristine. You can tell no pages have ever been bent or turned. That's the biggest problem that we see is people not working through the acs. Number two, use Hogs Helicopter Alliance Ground School. I just mentioned it. I just mentioned our options. You can get 40% off the monthly. You can cancel anytime, come back anytime. It's a bargain. That's the best way to go in. Start going through videos step by step to help prepare for a checkride. We help you with the oral. We help you with the flight. Just like the acs, it's a guideline for what you're going to need to know and the kind of standards you're going to need to fly to the day of your checkride. All right. Is that it so far? All right, good. Well, thanks everybody that tuned in. We couldn't do this without you. We appreciate it. Tune in tomorrow. If you're not in our email list, go sign up for this real quick for the PDF. Then you'll be in our email list. We're going to email out a time each day. We're going to come back, answer more questions and we're going to tally you. Send in your questions over the next 14 days, too, so you can email those into me at Kennedy helicopter ground.com so that I have those fresh in my mind for what I talk about that day. And then people that want to ask their question while we're live, in chat or during the premiere and chat, we'll do the book giveaway. That's all I got for now. Peace out. See you next video. This is where we should have a bumper that rolls like a Go to.
