Before going onstage, look at the audience from the side and repeat "I'm here to serve." It shifts your focus from nerves to purpose. Improv training also builds confidence: Speaker B's wife, naturally anxious about public speaking, won best performer in a 30-person improv class by committing fully to the absurd.
I'm just gonna jump back to that prior. I do remember one turning point. When I go to an audience, before I go up, I try to look at the audience, just perform on stage from the side. Yeah. And say, I'm here to serve. I'm here to serve. Huge. And that's maybe what's caught my nerves, because I repeat that a thousand times. I'm here to serve. And I also know I'm not here to serve everyone. I'm here to serve. Who needs to be served right now through this message.
Gotcha. I love that. And that takes a lot of. Well, it doesn't take the pressure off, but it refocuses. The.
Refocuses. Yeah, it refocuses it. And when I make mistakes and stuff, I can recover from it because I know my purpose is to serve. Right. Chris and I took an improv.
Yes, I heard about that. I love that you guys did that.
Such a powerful tool. Whatever happens, it's a yes. And.
Was she comfortable with that? Because she's not the show. She's not the show woman in this marriage.
It's interesting. She. Because I do public speaking. Some people have asked her to speak. What's it like to be married to that weirdo?
Yeah.
So she's done one or two public speeches. She gets really nervous. She does not like doing it.
Yeah.
In improv, she won best.
Best improv. There.
Was 30 people in this class. She won. She won it. Yeah. I love it. She just leaned into it. I remember the instructor. It was so funny. He's point center goes Dracula reading Little Miss Muffet to kindergarten scout. And she's like, I don't know if I get welcome, children. And she did this big gesture, and it was like. It was so funny. She's in it. She was a little miss.
Tommy, sit down. Listen.
It'll bite you. So she was amazing and funny, and so she won. She is so naturally funny. So naturally funny. And I would argue she could be great actor. She doesn't have the desire, but you could crush it on stage.
