YouTube video (Kevin Thompson, Mar 25, 2013) honoring Joe Santiago, a former Notre Dame football player and U.S. Marine. The speaker recounts Santiago’s athletic career (starter at guard on Notre Dame’s 1943, 1946, and 1947 national championship teams), military service in World War II and the Korean War, a professional football career in New York where he made conference all-star teams in 1948–49 and the NFL All-Pro team in 1950, and a post-football business career founding Premium Brands Incorporated. The clip notes civic roles (president of the Liberty Bowl; board memberships) and that his daughter Janet Santiago accepted the Memphis Catholic Hall of Fame honor on his behalf.

Was all Memphis in football and baseball. He attended the University of Notre Dame on a football scholarship and was captain of his freshman football team. As a sophomore in 1943, he started at guard for the Irish national champion team. After serving three years as a Marine during World War II, he returned to Notre Dame and played on the national championship teams of 1946 and 1947. After graduation, Joe Siniago played three years of pro football with New York and made the conference all star team in 1948 and 49. In 1950, Santiago made the NFL All Pro team and retired. He served again with the Marines in the Korean War and when he returned to Memphis, he began his business career, eventually forming his own firm, Premium Brands Incorporated. Santiago was president of the Liberty bowl, on the board of directors of cdu, the National Football foundation and the Mid South Fair. Here to accept for Mr. Santiago, it's his daughter, Janet Santiago. Please join me in honoring Joe Santiago as we add his name to the Memphis Catholic hall of Fame.
