One of the key ideas in relating to other people is you have to let them be who they are. You can't. You know, trying to make them be somebody other, trying to have them be the way you want them to be, the way, you know, would be good for them to be, is just not useful. You have to let them be who they are. And that is sometimes difficult. We always want to help people. Well, we know that they would be better off if they did this or this or that, or had a different opinion or saw a bigger picture or whatever. And then we want to fix them. Actually, we want to help them be this better person that we see. So then we start pushing that or manipulating that just with the things we say, and all of that tends to make the relationship worse.
