Do you believe it or not, there's more out there for you. So the opportunity is there. But now what you got to do is you got to put it to work, right? It's great to have knowledge. But remember I told you my original teacher was Jim Rohn. He used to have this phrase. He said, don't let your knowledge, you know, don't let your learning lead to knowledge. You'll become a fool. He said, let your learning lead to action. And he said, and then you can create a life beyond anything you've ever dreamed about. And so this has been about success. Leaves clues. Between Dean and I alone, there's 65 years of business experience in this category, which there are very few humans on earth that haven't been close to that. And so we could be idiots at this point. We'd have to see there are patterns, right? And that's what I want you to realize. There are patterns that will make you crazy, make you frustrated, make you stressed, make you overwhelmed, make you be in a place where you want to give up. And there are patterns that will make you push through, get you excited, get you grateful, get you where you're on a flow where if something seemed really difficult and all of a sudden it's easy. And learning those patterns, both the skills, but also the psychological, emotional patterns, is probably the sing most important thing you're going to do. But what you really got to remember is that the real skill here is going to be your ability to influence this and this, right? Your mind and your heart, your ability to shift your emotions. We're just going to take it to the next level now. It's to increase your, your skills as a leader. And remember I said the other day, a leader doesn't mean everybody follows you. A leader means you do things on your standards. You don't settle for less than you can be. So the question I have for you is this. What makes somebody a leader? What's the number one skill that makes someone a leader? They get to have the quality of life everybody else dreams about. And he answered the question of what's their number one skill? It's a skill of influence. The ability to influence the thoughts, the feelings, the emotions and the actions of another human being is the most important skill you can have. If you're going to be a great father or great mother or a great friend or contribute to your community or build a business, you've got to learn to influence. But who do you have to learn to influence most? And the answer is, you already know it is you if you can't influence yourself to do certain things. I mean, if you're overweight, you're not doing a good job of influencing your hands, right? It's really all this is here and here. It's this ability to shift the way we think, the way we feel and what we do. I want you to really think about what are the things that tend to influence you not for the better. There's these invisible forces that shape our life, right? If you ask people, like what. What shapes people's life the most? Most of it is invisible. Radiation is invisible. Too much, you're dead. Too little and you're dead. Gravity is invisible. Too much, you're dead. You get crushed. Too little, you float off into space. Which is why we can't live on certain other planets, right? We can go through all the invisible forces. Electricity that allows all of us to do what we're doing right now. Most of you don't see it. You don't know it. You don't even understand how it works exactly. But if you learn how to use certain core elements that are invisible, the most powerful invisible forces are human emotion. Meaning, I don't care if you have the resources or not. I didn't have the money. I didn't have the time and the education. I didn't have the people. I could have every excuse, and I have them for a long time. But then one day I woke up and I just got tired of making excuses to myself. And I realized the most successful people in the world didn't have the money, didn't have the resource, didn't have the tools. But they had the ultimate resource. Please jot it down. It's called human emotion. The ultimate resource is resourcefulness. If you can tap into that emotion, that's what starts wars. Human emotion. It's not logic. That's what gets you married. That's how children come about. Everything in life comes from emotion. We justify intellectually, but it's human emotion. And I don't mean just being emotionally intelligent. That's really nice, having that potential of managing your emotion. I mean, becoming emotionally fit. And so one of the things I really want to challenge you to do is develop a pattern of doing the things you don't want to do. If you just do that over and over again, it'll change your life. Jim Rohn, my original teacher, used to say, tony, if you want an extraordinary life, you must learn the philosophy of stretching. I said, what do you mean by stretching? He said, well, think of it this way. If you say to yourself, I can't do something. Then train yourself to say I must and immediately take action. I said, well, does that mean if I can't jump off a cliff, then I must? He said, no, don't be stupid, right? He said, but when you say you can't do something, but you know if you made yourself do it, you'd be better as a father or as a friend, or you'd have more skill, or you'd be better in business, or you'd be better in your own character, then you must do it. He said, you have to develop this habit that says, I can't, then I must. I can't, then I must. And as soon as you say I must, take immediate action. And I got to tell you, that philosophy that Jim taught me changed my life. I remember I went to him because, you know, I got this $35 seminar I told you about. I'm making $40 a week. And the next seminar was $1,200. That was in 1977. So it's the equivalent of about $10,000 today. It's a big investment for just one weekend. And I was like, I thought the $35 investment was a big investment. And there's no way I didn't have $10,000, right? I was living on my own at one point, sleeping in my car. And it's like, I didn't have that kind of money. My car was $1,200 to give you an idea. So it's like, sure enough, he kept saying, tony, if you don't have $1,200 at 17, 18 years old, he said, then you have to go to the seminar. And I thought, oh, he's just selling me, right? At first. But as I told you, I finally started to break through. I. We all get what we have to have. And what I need to do is just deal with the one thing that stops us. So what's the only thing that could stop you? And people usually say to me, well, me. No, it isn't you. It's fear, right? It's the part of the mind that is fearful. Remember I told you the other day, we all have a 2 million year old brain. And it's not designed to make you happy. It's designed to make you survive. Remember, it's designed to look for what's dangerous. And how do I protect myself? How do I hide from it and freeze or fight it if I have to, or. Or run from it, right? Fight, flight or freeze, as I'm sure you've heard. Well, that survival brain As I mentioned to you today, it used to be there to protect us against like a saber toothed tiger. Now it's like, oh my God, what if I fail? What if I don't make enough money? What do people think of me? And we make all that life and death. So if the only thing that's going to stop you is fear, then let's look at a way to deal with it or two. First of all, when people tell me of their life, how's your life going? Is it going great? It's going terrible, it's going wonderful. How's it going? You don't experience life. Please jot this down. I experience the life. Life I focus on. I experience the life I focus on. See, in any moment what's wrong is always available. And you can focus on it, right? Oh my God, look what's happening to our economy. Look what's happening with inflation, of course, all that's available. But in any moment what's right is also available. And those who learn how to direct their focus, those are the people that no longer let fear control them. There was an old movie years ago I mentioned the other day. It's a movie where this gentleman. It was based on a true story of this mathematician who went kind of crazy and he ended up winning Nobel Prize. And they asked him, it was a key moment in the movie. They asked him, like, how do you stop the schizophrenic part of your brain? No one's ever done that before. He said, it's really simple. I realize whatever I feed, grows. If I feed my fear, it gets bigger. If I feed my focus on what works, I get more of what works, right? So that's really what we've really got to be able to do. And I know you know this intellectually I do too. I'll tell you a funny story. Years ago I wanted to learn to race cars. And so I went to this racing school and I got to know the founder of the school, his name's Bob Bondurante, a very famous guy in that business. And I said, Bob, I'd really like to. I don't want to just take a basic course, I really want to master this. I really want to drive. I want to be able to drive like crazy. I want to drive competitively. He goes, okay, Tony, if you want to do that, I'm going to take you on a ride you're never going to forget. He goes, get in the passenger seat, put the helmet on, lock me all up. He goes, I'm going to show you what a car can do. And we were at a place called Laguna Seca, which is a very famous racetrack in Northern California. And it's famous because there's some areas where you're going straight at a wall. They call it a corkscrew. And you got to go right around that thing. So it's pretty intense. I got in that car with him, and I couldn't believe it. I thought we were going to die multiple times. At the very end of the thing, he turns the ignition off. He looks at me and he goes, you'll be able to do that in four days. I remember looking at him saying, you know, I'm a very positive person, and you're full of it. I said, I don't even know if I want to do this after what I just saw. He goes, tony, we're not going to just throw you in the car and do what you just did. He said, the first key. And hear this, all of you. This is a perfect metaphor. He said, the first key is, before you ever try to drive fast, is you got to learn how to drive what's called a spin car. So what's a spin car? He goes, what we do is, I put you in this car. And he goes, I'm going to be over on the passenger seat. There's no steering wheel. There's no brake, But I have four buttons right here behind my arm at the bottom. You can't see it. And when you least suspect it, I'm going to push one of those four buttons. And what it'll do, it'll lift up one of the four wheels, and we'll start to spin out of control in that direction. And he said, so this is all you have to remember in life. And please hear me, because it's all you got to remember in business as well. He said, focus on what you want, not on what you're afraid of. I thought, that's easy. I teach this, right? He goes, yeah, because what happens is, I'm sure you've heard of a person driving their Porsche or their sports car down a country road, and they're going 90 miles an hour, and they crash into a pole. There's only one pole every quarter of a mile because they start to lose control. They go, oh, my God, I don't want to hit the pole. They stare right into it, and where your focus goes, your energy flows. Where your focus goes, you steer right into it. That's why people crash. He goes, so focus on where you want to go, not on the wall. The wall's there. But if you focus on the wall, you're going to hit the wall. And I thought, no problem. I teach this stuff, right? So then he gets you going. And, you know, if you've ever seen a race car driver, I used to think, what could be. That's not like a sport. I mean, that's not, like, athletic. Oh, it is, because you start going 120, 130, 140 miles an hour. The level of focus, the level of tension in your body. I mean, your whole body heats up. It's intense. And so I'm ready. I'm, like, thinking to myself, you pull that thing, push that button, I'm ready. I'm ready. Well, does life ever push the button on you when you're ready? No, Right? So sure enough, he watches. And if he watches long enough, there's a moment where you lose just a little bit of concentration. He hits the button. We start spinning out of control. What do I do? I'll look straight at the wall. I don't want at the wall. He grabs my face, literally shoves my face to the left where we need to turn. Now, I'm fighting him because I want to see the death happen, right? And so I'm fighting him alone. He keeps pushing my head, and sure enough, as he pushes my head and I look this way, I steer this way, the direction I' and it felt like we stopped maybe turn 2 inches from the wall. It was probably 3ft, but my heart was beating out of my chest. He looks at me and says, did you learn? I said, I learned. I didn't learn squat because you got to condition it, right, guys? It's like, it's not enough to understand intellectually. It's like shooting basketball. You know how to do it, but you got to do it over and over and over again so it's in your body. So when it's time to execute, it happens. So we did it again, and I looked at the wall, we did it again, and he shoved my face, and he shoved my face after about 10 times, finally, when we started going out of control, I quickly snapped and looked where I want to go. Now, part of me want to watch this, but I know I'm focused on where I want to go now. Guess what? I got an important question for you. The question is this. If you focus on what you want, are you guaranteed not to hit the wall? And the answer, of course, is no. But if you focus on the wall, are you guaranteed to hit it? And the answer, of course, is yes. So what you're really doing in life is increasing your probabilities. That's what you're really doing to make sure that you can succeed. So my point is really simple. If you, you're going to get the life you focus on, so you got to train yourself to focus on you want. That's not to say you're not going to have challenges or there won't be problems, but if you focus on the challenges and problems, that's all you're going to have. If you focus on what you want, you're going to get there. And we're looking for one word. You know, people ask me all the time, tony, you traveled around the world, you met millions of people. What really makes people happy? And I can tell you one word. Progress. Jot down. Progress equals happiness. Progress. See, you know, people think, oh, when I get this goal, I'm going to be so happy. How many of you have ever gotten a goal, achieved a goal, and after you achieved it, your brain went, is this all there is? Who's had that experience out there, Ladies and gentlemen, make some noise. If you had it right, on the other hand, maybe you've achieved a goal and you were out of your mind. You were so happy you achieved it. But for how long were you happy about that? For a year, six months, six weeks, six days, six hours? See, most people's happiness lasts between six hours and about six weeks max. And the reason is because you're not supposed to sit at the table of success too long or you get bored and fat, right? Life is calling to us to make progress. Everything in life either grows or it dies. And what's been fun about this week, I think for most of you is just watching you and your videos and the things you've shared is you felt that sense of progress, that sense of learning, that sense of expanding your mind, opening up things, you starting to tell yourself that you couldn't do, you go, yeah, I can do that. I can find a way to do that. I can get the skill to do that. Progress is what's going to make you happy. If you're not healthy as you want to be, and you just start to do the right things for a few weeks and you lose just a few pounds and start to feel just a little better, the progress will feel like same thing in a relationship, same thing in your business or your finances. So just as you heard earlier here with Lisa talking about, there's no too small, right? Every little step will get you where you really, truly want to go. And I'll give you One more piece. That's a principle that has absolutely shaped my life. In fact, I've shared this principle with all my children throughout the years. I'll give you an example. My daughter Jolie, who is now at 48 years old, to give you an idea. But when she was in high school and just getting into college, her dream was always to be a dancer on Broadway. And she started. She was here in California, and she had beautiful dance lessons and competed and did extremely well. And one Christmas, she was home from college, and I was sat down with her, and I said, joely, how are you doing on your dream, by the way? It's a good question to ask yourself, isn't it? How are you doing on your dream? A lot of people giving up on their dreams. So how are you doing your dream? And she goes, what do you mean? I said, you know what I mean. Your dream being a Broadway dancer. She goes, well, dad, she goes, you know, I'm doing good. I'm getting straight A's in school, and I'm winning all the dance competitions I'm in. I said, honey, that's what I'm worried about. She goes, what? You're worried? I said, yeah, because there's a timeline on a dancer. See, you know, most people miss opportunities because it's right there in front of them. And they say, I feel like they're not ready. They don't have the time, they don't have the money, they don't have the attention. They. They don't know what to do, and so they don't do anything. And I said, right now, I said, you know, you're in school, but there's a timeline and a dancer. And I said, I just don't know that this is the right thing for you. She said, well, you're the one who told me to go to college. I said, yes, I was right, and I was wrong. You should still go to college. But I think right now, my problem is you're competing with people that you're better than. I think you should take up, leave school. You can go back to school later, go to New York, live in New York, learn from the best instructors in the world there, compete with the best people in the world and find out what you're capable of. I said, I think you could be a Broadway dancer, but I'm your dad, so I'm biased. But you're going to know for sure if you put yourself in the environment, make this happen. She's saying, well, gosh, that sounds like an aggressive plan. I said, that's the only way you get what you want. I said, honey, I think you look at me and think, oh, my dad's a genius. And I said, of course I am. I said, but my real genius is that when I see an opportunity, I grab it by the hair. When I didn't have the money or the time or the energy or it seemed impossible, I always said, I've got to put myself in the arena. I got to put myself where I can learn this. And a lot of things I tried didn't work, but I tried everything, and that's why I got to the things that work. And she's saying, well, when are you saying I should do this? I said, well, when would now be a good time? And she goes, now. You mean, like, right in the middle of the year? I said, yes. She goes, well, maybe I should talk to somebody in the entertainment business about this. I said, sure, I get paid a million dollars a year to coach people, but you should call somebody else. You should talk to someone. And she started to laugh. She goes, no, dad, you've taught me. Talk to people. Experts in the field. I said, okay, that's fair. Who do you want to talk to? And she said, this guy Jay Maloney, who worked for a company called caa, Big Hollywood entertainment company. And I said, yeah, Jay would be brilliant. He'll know. And she said, okay, well, I'm going to call him. I said, when would now be a good time? She goes, right now. I said, get in there and call him. So she leaves the room, and I call Jay instantly. He's a friend of mine. He's on my speed dial. And I said, jay, listen. I said, I just had this conversation with jolie. Tell me if I'm full of it. This is what I told her. She's competing with people. She's better than the best dancers in the world in Broadway. She should go there, learn, compete. He goes, tony, that's spot on. I said, well, don't say it's spot on. Lesson. He goes, spot on. I said, then tell her. Hung up. She came back a few minutes later and says, his line's busy. I said, try him again. Persist. She literally didn't know I did this at the time. And so finally, she's gone for, like an hour and a half. They talk forever. She comes back and she goes, well, Jay really thinks I should go to New York. And that's right. If I want to be on Broadway, that's where the best competitors are. That's where I need to go. And so I Guess, dad, we're going to do this. I said, well, I'm glad it was confirmed by an expert. And I said, so here's how the deal is going to work. You're going to work your ass off. I'm not going to pay for everything. I'm going to pay for your apartment. I said, initially, for the first two months, then you're going to have to take that over, and I'm going to pay for all your lessons. So you have to be a working actress, not someone sitting on her tail. She said, okay, we're on. And I took my daughter, who had grown up in Southern California beaches, and all of a sudden, she goes to New York during one of the worst storms and one of the worst winters they'd had in about nine years. And it toughened her up. She called me, we talked on the phone, and one day I was coming to town. This is maybe six, seven, eight months later. I let her know I was coming next month. She goes, oh, I've got to see you. I said, well, I'd love to see you. And so she knew I was coming. And I get to the airport and I come out for, I thought was going to be someone to pick me up a car. And it's a car that my daughter sent. I'm like, wow, this is pretty impressive. I hope she's making enough money to afford this. Sat me in the car, and I get in the car, and the guy said, yeah, I'm taking you to see your daughter. And so we drive into New York, and we drive past the area where her apartment was. And I said, well, that was her apartment. Well, she's meeting you somewhere else. And we drive down to downtown Broadway where all the plays are. And sure enough, we pull up to this play, and it's Tommy, the one that was done by Elton John on that play and on the screen on the top, I see my daughter's name as a star in the piece. So literally six months after she committed doing this. Yeah, give it up for Jolie. She was unbelievable, right? So I'd love to think it was my brilliant fathering that did this, but it was her skill, her hard work, her pushing through. But she wouldn't have done it if she'd not taken that sense of urgency. And that's the thing I really want you to take from this. You've had such a beautiful week, but if you leave here with knowledge, you come a fool. Now it's time to take action. Now it's time to invest in yourself. Now it's time to make decisions that push you through. And it's like, that's the only thing that changes their life. If you look back at your life and you say, what are the things I'm really happy about and what are the things I'm unhappy about? You can trace them all back to some decision you made at some point. So I made a decision, gosh, 45 years ago, to invest in myself, and then another decision to invest in myself even bigger, to get answers. That launched me in a direction that didn't just provide for me a business or an economic or an income. It's provided for me an extraordinary, meaningful life.
