What does a VP of Sales Actually Do? | Day in the Life

A first-person, monologue-style YouTube day-in-the-life by Kyle Asay (VP of Sales) describing his daily routine: morning workout/checking Salesforce, coaching reps, monitoring dashboards and forecasting, innovating on outbound/inbound strategies, advocating for team quotas, practicing role-play, and planning focused work blocks. The video aims to humanize sales leadership and build empathy for the pressures of the role.
Hey, is Salesforce updated? Okay, just get it done. I just finished my workout. Technically, I didn't lift any weights or anything, but I was able to walk around for an hour telling people what they were doing wrong, how to fix it, and that they need to do more to have success. So just another really fulfilling start to my day. Got the juices flowing, feeling good. Ready to get to work. Let's get it. This is Kyle. Ac. Like the air conditioning, the ac. Dude, I'm gonna stop you right there. Is this a cold call? Okay, dude, it's 2024. Why don't you try Social song on me or something? Hey, hey. Just check the dash and Kenny is only at 97 dials and it's almost lunchtime. Is he on PTO today? Okay, I want you to call him right now. He's probably going to answer because he's clearly not on the phones. I want you to remind him it's 2024. Leads are not coming to us. We got to go to them. Pressure is a privilege, and I'm going to follow up with you very shortly to make sure you followed up with him. And I expect this dashboard lighting up. A big part of my job is forecasting, and so I'll often be reviewing the data, refreshing it to see if the numbers go up. Sometimes they don't, which makes me wonder and worry. Is nobody doing meaningful work? This is my lunch. I don't know why anybody would care what I'm eating for lunch, but I've seen enough of these to know that I'm supposed to show you my lunch. A big part of my job is innovation, even invention sometimes. And so I've noticed that outbound is looking pretty dead. So I've been hard at work innovating, creating the next big thing, and I think I've got it. My B represents the full executive team, showing them what I think is actually genius. I call it content driven inbound, leading to outbound cdillo for short. So I'm excited to show this here, this in a few minutes. Isn't that just marketing? Why does everybody keep saying it's just marketing? A big part of my job is internal navigation. A lot of it is taking care of my people. I just heard that they're considering a quota increase, which I am not going to stand by. Hey, no, it's Kyle. I heard about the quota increase. It's. It's June. It's the middle of the year, and there is no way I'm going to tolerate that. So I'm giving your car to like. Oh, it's just for 80s. So we're going to raise their quotas to keep mine the same. Okay, yeah, no, that sounds good. Thanks. Let's cut the recording. Cut the recording. I'm never beyond practicing and getting better. I encourage my AES to role play. I do the same. Any updates? Any updates? Any updates? A successful tomorrow begins with planning today. So here's a sneak peek into how I plan my next day the night before. So 8 to 9am, we're gonna be busy. 9 to 10 busy. And then we'll do 10 to 11 30. Deep work, thinking and the next block busy. Look, I didn't make this video for sympathy. Like, I don't want you all thinking, oh, whoa, how hard he works. So much stress, so much effort. No, I made this to show you that VPs are people too. And we just have hard jobs like you. We're doing the best we can, like you, to create success together. So thank you for watching and I hope this gives you a little bit more empathy for what we're going through.
