A short YouTube monologue (by Kyle Ford) advising creators that not everyone will support paid work: some people will insist creators labor for free, while others will voluntarily subscribe or pay. The speaker urges creators to ignore persistent critics, publish work they don’t feel guilty about, and focus on supporters who are "their people."
There will be people who are mad no matter what. They expect you to continue to labor for free. That's okay. Those are not your people. There will be a group of people who will say, yeah, I'll follow you there. Yeah, I see the value in that. Yes, I'll subscribe to this just to support you. Those are your people. So don't worry about the people who are giving you a hard time for making a living. If it doesn't feel gross, put it out there. And then the people who are attracted to that, those are your people.
