A short promotional explainer (YouTube) defining cohort-based courses: structured online learning where a specific group (a cohort) covers the same material over the same timeframe. The video outlines benefits — stronger community/interaction, higher completion rates versus prerecorded courses, flexible cohort sizes and durations (from days to thousands of participants), and easier tooling today — and gives a concrete example: Mighty Networks’ five-week Community Design Accelerator. The piece ends with a call-to-action to learn more via a demo video or join Mighty Community.

Cohort based courses are super popular right now.
But what is a cohort based course? Fun fact, you've probably already taken one. I'm Tony Botcalupo and I'm going to break down what a cohort based course is and why it's such a popular format right now. For online course creators, a cohort based course is just learning with a specific group of people, otherwise known as your cohort, where you cover the same material over the same period of time. So it's a lot like going to school where we have classes that start.
And finish at specific semesters.
We all know how that works, right? In school, you're with a cohort of.
Students for the whole year and you're working through your classes together.
So how does this translate to a cohort based course online?
Well, there's obviously a lot more flexibility.
A cohort could be as small as.
A handful of people or could be as large as thousands.
And they don't have to run for a whole year or even a semester. They could be just a few days. Here at Mighty Networks, we've run our community design accelerator for a five week long cohort based course called and we.
Found that to work really well for us.
So if you're a creator or an.
Entrepreneur with something to teach, why do a cohort based course when you could.
Do a prerecorded course and just let people work through the material in their own time?
The truth is that cohort based courses have some big advantages.
Number one, learning is way more fun.
When you have a supportive community of people around you. You can still have prerecorded course material, but you can also have this group of people that are all working through the material together.
And so that way when a student gets stuck, they can ask for help.
And there's people who are there to help. Number two, your students are going to have better results. The completion rate for online courses that are pre recorded is awful. But with a cohort based course, the fact that you've got a group of people who are cheering you on and helping you out, and a limited time frame in which to complete the material drastically increases the chances that your students are going to make it all the way to the finish. Finally, it's never been easier to create and sell a cohort based course. It used to be that you'd have to cobble things together using Facebook groups or Slack or WordPress plugins and it was a lot to just even get it off the ground.
Whereas now we've got Mighty Networks which.
Can actually let you do everything that you need all within one platform. And you could even have multiple cohorts, multiple courses, all under one network.
Because.
Because nobody wants to manage 10 Facebook.
Groups all at the same time. It's crazy. To learn more about how to build a course in Mighty Networks, check out this video or join us live in.
