Your Health Is Everything - Part 1

Chris Duffay, founder of Coaches Cartel, went from an overweight teenager to a fitness coach. He argues that sleep is the foundation for everything else: eight hours in a cool, dark, quiet room changes how you look, feel, and perform.

His name is Chris Duffay and he is going to be an unbelievable blessing into your life and ultimately to help you show up at a higher level in your business, this in your family, in your community to have the maximum impact that you're here to have in the world. So stay tuned for part one of three and if you're at any point like consuming our stuff and you want to take another step with us, go to rebscasestudy.com we just launched our case study program where you can work with us for free access to everything we offer for 30 days. So go to rebskstudy.com see you over there. Stay tuned for part one of three in terms of just taking your physical body and becoming a weapon for just kicking butt in every other area of your life. Stay tuned. All right, let's get back. I told you 2pm sharp. So let's get back. We've got an awesome next session which I'm looking forward to just as much as all of you will be here in a second when you find out what we're going to do. All right, let's bring it back here. All right, so I'm going to honor our start time. So I'll tell the quick story here around our next guest and then I'll give a quick bio and then we'll get after it. So I think I've known Chris Dufay for probably closer to four years, definitely more than three years. We're in a, in a program, a coach of coaches. So black belt, Taki Moore, an Aussie dude, and I sat next to Chris. So we were in boardroom together and I sat next to him. First time I met the guy. And you can go to his website to get the image that I was imagining in my head, like this guy is just super fit. And then we just got to talking. Super fit, super smart and probably One of the nicest guys you'll ever meet and just a beast in business. And so getting all those things together is really, really hard. And I find that some guys, when they're a beast in business, they're just like pricks and they're just, you know, they're not a good dude. And so, Chris, it is an honor to have you here with us. I'm going to read a brief biography just so everyone has a little bit of a context here. So entrepreneur, author, speaker, filmmaker, health nut and ice cream lover. So I don't know how Covid has affected your living situation, but last time I checked, you were in Bali, but you're living Australia, Louisiana. You've got a few residences, your daughters and wife, founder of CEO of Coaches, founder and CEO of Coaches Cartel. And just helping coaches grow their businesses and their lives. So some fun facts. Chris hasn't had social media on his phone for a year, so I don't know if that is still true, but that is something that we dug up about you and it has been one of the best things that he has ever done. Rather than reading, listening and learning about all different things, which I know our community struggles with, uh, Chris has focused on one subject per month and going as deep as possible into it. Uh, and then he's seen massive positives from this and his obsession is helping entrepreneurs answer the question, how do we live a life worth living? So, Chris, it is awesome to have you here, my friend.
Thank you so much, Lars. I absolutely love you, brother. Every time I get to jam with you, I walk away a better person. And thank you everyone for being here. I got up at 3am to make sure I was ready to rock and roll for all of you good looking, cool cats here. So I'm excited to share with you everything that I've got planned. And hopefully this is going to be something to really help you because when Lars asked me to do this presentation for you, I was like 100%. I'm totally down. He gave me a couple of times it was available. I don't care what time. I'm just going to make it work. Like, we're all good for this as well. So for me, health and fitness has been something really huge. I actually a really overweight kid, I had an eating disorder as a kid, to be perfectly honest. And it was me that was able to. When I finished school, I learned to lose the weight and I became a personal trainer, 18 years old, because I wanted to help other people go through that, not just physical transformation, but that Transformation that goes on on the inside as well. I ran a personal training business throughout Sydney and then it was actually three days after we found out my wife was pregnant with our first child. I had the opportunity to move to Dubai. And so I lived and worked in Dubai for two years, running a fitness business there as well and completely burned out. That was back in 2014 and that's when I started my online fitness business and then we moved to Bali. Bali has been our mainstay. I'm currently in Australia at the moment and in about three or four weeks we're actually heading off to Mexico. And it's great because obviously one here is all about the same things and the same kind of values that we want as well. And one of those for me is I actually want to check out Mexico. It's been a great place for us, especially Tulum. So we want to be able to buy some property there and I want to be able to have three homes around the world, one in Bali, one in Mexico and here we have one in Australia as well. But when it comes down to it, there was one thing I didn't love when I kept looking around at business people specifically, especially because my forte when I was a fitness coach, I was more of a physique coach. I was more of a person that would get people ready for movies, for photo shoots, to get people on stage, all of that kind of stuff. And my Forte was the 35 to 55 year old busy professional. And I would be able to get them in shape, especially the ones that had stubborn weight, the ones that were, hey, I've been doing all this stuff but I haven't been able to get in shape. What do I do? I was the one that they could come in and fix the situation. However, I continue to find that there were so many what I call compromises and this is something that's a big thing in my life right now, especially because we're in pre production about to shoot a new documentary series called A Life Worth Living. And essentially what I'm doing with this documentary series is breaking down one what is A Life Worth Living? Redefining what success is today. Because I truly do not believe it's just all about money and power, which is what so much of doing Western society really pushes towards, but also redefining how do we actually get there today as well. So I like to break rules, I like to be able to relook at things from different perspectives as well. And a big part of that is health and it is something that's been truly transformational for myself, but especially when it comes to the context of how do I make sure that I show up as my best self. So I have three daughters, I have a wife, I'm currently running two different businesses or it's about to be three because I'm about to partner with another one next week and I want to be a great friend and I want to be able to take care of myself. So how do I show up as my best self as well? And how do I make sure I'm has. I don't love the word happy. I take more of a stoic philosophy with this and something I would rather use tranquility. How do I have more tranquility within my life as well? And so there's something that I break on this down and what I'm going to do. I will share my iPad as I jam so you don't have to look at my ugly mug the entire time. And we can look at this as well. So this is a really easy concept for us to be able to gather everything as we go through this. Okay, so the first thing I look at is, well, what are we actually looking for? Let's set the intention right now for what this content conversation is that we're going to have. And if you have questions as we come through, I'm going to want to make sure I get feedback from you. Use a chat box as we go through this because I want to make sure that I'm tailoring this exactly to you. So three things I come towards when it is what can I help you have more of and how you can be. One is I want you to look the way that you want to be able to look. So much of it, our ego is going to come into play with this and we're going to be like, oh, I want to be able to lose weight, I want to be able to look better. Another one is I want to be able to feel better. Ok? I want to be able to have energy is a lot of the common words that we're going to be able to use when it comes to the I need to show up for myself, for my family, for my business, for my life. And also I want to be able to perform better. So I want to ask you something before we go forward. If you were to look the way that you want to look, if you were to feel the way that you want to be able to feel, and if you were to perform day in, day out the way that you want to perform, how would you feel in the chat Box. Please put in the one word that you think kind of encapsulates you wanting to look the way they want to look, feel the way you want to feel and perform the way you want to perform. What's the one word that is that feeling that you're going to have because that's what I want us to anchor this on. So what is that feeling? Let's throw it in the chat box.
Balance.
Glowing. Liz. I love that. Amazing. Chris is powerful. Amazing. Gary. Rad. That's awesome. Powerful. Excited. Confidence. Strong. Amazing. Well rested. Awesome. Balance. Unstoppable. Focused. Alive. Satisfied. This is good. Keep coming. Let's get a few more in there. Motivated. I love that. 10x. Satisfied. Clear. This is good. I like that. Let's healthy. Beautiful. Who said unstoppable? Jesse, I'm gonna use you. Let's go with this one. So we're gonna be unstoppable. Is it okay if we go through today? And I want to be able to make sure that you know a couple of key things. Key things. Because this is the thing when it comes to especially health and fitness, when it comes to looking good, feeling good, performing good. Let's be perfectly honest right now there is more information out there that you can poke a stick at. Right. There is just too much information. There is absolute overwhelm. And this is where there's so many different sides of story. Let's just say we start talking about food. Well, on one hand I've got one person saying the carnivore diet's the way to go and they're only eating me. On the other hand, I've got this other person saying I'm a vegan and that's the way to go. I what the hell do I do? And that's perfectly fine. And this is where I want to make it really simple for you. Okay. So I want to make sure you're going to walk away with some key things to make sure that you can make some slight changes but are going to have some big impacts. Am I cool with that? Just give me a thumbs up if you cool with that. Love it. Okay, let's get moving. So for us to do this, I was thinking about what are the three levers that are going to make this actually happen for us? Okay. And the three levers that are really going to make sure that we can move forward is going to be one I want us to start with. Someone said it really well. Who's a. I wanted to bring this up. Justin Miller said well rested. Yes. Why? Because we're going to start with sleep. Ok. Why do we want to start with sleep? Because it is honestly something that is game changing once you get done. And I am going to put my hand up first. Our youngest daughter Rumi is under two. She didn't have a great sleep last night. So I am coming into this extremely not with a full eight hours of sleep. I did get to bed at 7:59 but I did wake up at 3am with this and it was a very broken sleep as well. However, it's perfectly fine. I did some breath work before starting with this. So I could be 100 miles an hour for you. But especially it is. So Justin, I have a three year old and a four year old. Yes, exactly right. So I've got a two year old, I've got a five year old and I've got a nearly eight year old or three daughters. And so sleep is something that is a holy grail, that is really good. However, when it comes to sleep there is so many, so much conflicting information about what it is that we need to be able to do. And so there's three things I want us to be able to walk away from right now, to be able to implement. And this is the thing. It is what can I actually do so that I can improve my life? That's it, that's all I want to make sure. If you can walk away from this conversation and just have a few tidbits, but the small levers are going to swing those big doors. You're going to, you are going to be perfectly fine. Right now the first thing we sleep, the easiest thing to be able to do is going to be I want you to have eight hours in bed. So right now what I want you to do is in the chat box put in what are the times you're going to be in bed. I don't care how much you're sleeping right now. Okay. You could be an insomniac with your eyes wide open the entire time for eight hours. But as long as you're in bed for eight hours, that's where that's I just want to start with. Okay, so in the chat box, what is the actual time? Justin, hold your horses. I'm going to get to the ordering in a second. Okay, Michelle Davis says 11pm to 7am Amazing. Eight hours, what else? Give us, give us a timeframe because this is really important. You need to set your time. Stephanie. 9:45 to 5:45. Beautiful. 10 to 6. 10 to 6. Awesome. 10:36. Yes, good. This is really good. And don't just write this down for me. Write this down for you. Make a note. Right now, this is the time that you're going to be in bed. Easiest thing you could do. Don't do it now because I don't want you to be distracted. But on your iPhone, and God knows if you're using anything else, why. But on your iPhone, put the time on to make sure that you are supposed to be hitting bed at that time and that you're going to be waking up at that time. Beautiful. Last says 10 to 6 is my goal. But usually 36, 30 is your reality. Beautiful. That's perfectly fine. No dramas. We just want to make these small tweaks. So the idea is right now you are just going to be in bed for eight hours. You know what time you're going to be hopping in and you know what time you're going to be getting out as well. Ok? And so yes, we want to be able to have great quality sleep, which is what the next two steps are going to be about. But we just want to make sure that we're actually in there. So this is all about habit formation, just getting the small steps moving to be able to get momentum forward. Okay? The one other thing I want to talk about when it comes to these eight hours in bed is your bedroom. Okay? So the bedroom is for two things. They both start with S and sleep in six. That's it. Nothing else is supposed to be going on in the bedroom. So the three things I want you to think about and I want you to think about what you can change in your bedroom. Because I want it to be cool. So it's got to be cool, not warm. Okay? I don't love winter. I only live really in warm climates. I literally live in Sunshine beach at Sunshine coast of Australia and then we live in Bali and then also maybe in Mexico as well. They're warm climates. I've also lived in Dubai. That's pretty warm as well. So for me it was always about having the bedroom to be cool. Okay? So you want a cool bedroom and you want to make sure it is dark, not just a little bit dark, pitch black. You want no light whatsoever. You want to be able to hold your hand in front of your face when you're in bed and you can see nada, absolutely nothing as well. So if there is light coming in, you can do two things. Either get shut out blinds in your bedroom to make sure that there is no light coming in, or get an eye mask. An eye mask isn't the Most ideal thing, there have been studies done where people were sleeping and they shone light upon people's feet and it did create a response of actually waking the body up. Okay, so the best idea is just have no light whatsoever in the bedroom. But if you have an eye mask, that is a better step forward. And I would highly recommend that. And then finally, you want the bedroom quiet, no noise. Okay? So really you can't do anything about the outside noise, but if there is outside noise and you're living maybe near a busy road or something like that. Earplugs, wear earplugs and make sure you can shut that out. Okay? So it's going to be cool, dark and quiet with your bedroom. So if there's any of those things that are not happening right now, just jot those down for yourself to make sure that you can change that.
