Another One Bites the Dust Guitar Lesson for Beginners

Lauren Bateman teaches the bass line from Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust" on a single string. The riff uses just two fingers on the 6th string, starting with the pattern 5,3,0, then open strings, ending on 3,0,5. She breaks it into sections and slows it down so you can nail the rhythm.

Hey, everyone, how's it going? This is Lauren Bateman and welcome to my music studio. Today we're going to be going over Queens. Another one Bites the dust. A very simple bass line tab that we're going to learn here. Again, just building on that hand dexterity so that when you get to chords, it's going to be a lot easier for you to be able to do those chords. Again, very familiar bass line, fairly easy. We're just going to use two fingers, our first and third finger. And again, we're just going to use that numbering system. And remember, each number. If I say zero, you're going to play an open string. And this, this tab just uses this top string, the sixth string.
So if I say zero, it's an open string. If I say three, you're going to use your first finger on the third fret, like so. And you're going to use your. If I say five, you're going to use your third finger on the fifth fret, like so. And don't forget that there's these little dots here that help you know where your odd number frets are. So what we're going to do is we're going to start. There's a couple parts here. So the first part we're going to start is 5, 3, 0.
And he actually does it pretty quick.
But we're going to go real slow first. So we're going to go 5, 3, 0, just to get the feel for it. 5, 3, 0. Then there's a bunch of open strings on the E string. So it's 5, 3, 0, 2 E strings and then 3 grouped together.
Another one bites the dust. So that last part is 3, 0, 5. So we got 5, 5, 3, 0, 0, 0, 0, zero, 0. Lots of zeros there. 3, 0, 5.
So just to get the rhythm right on this, this one has a bit of a rhythmic change to it. We're just going to practice that first part. So like I said, the first part's a little faster. So you're going to go.
Dun, dun, dun, five, three, zero.
Just like that.
There we go.
And then the two dots. Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, Three, zero, five.
There we go. One more time. Five, three, zero, zero, zero, zero, 0, 0, 3, 0, 5. Lots of words. So again, not too difficult. A little bit of a rhythmic, more rhythmic challenge for you just to get used to, but just practice it real slow. So we got.
And again.
So again, this fairly easy. It's all in one string and there's lots of zeros in the middle and some fives and threes on the end, so not too bad of a bass line for you to learn. Once again, like I said, it will work a bit on your rhythmic timing. Start doing that, so just practice real slow. If this is the first tab you're learning, that's okay. It might be a little frustrating. Just stick with it as your fingers get used to the motion.
You'Ll get quicker at it. Another thing just to mention, you want to make sure that you're keeping your wrist relaxed and that you're not really death gripping the guitar or your hand is going to get tired, your wrist is going to hurt. So just keep everything nice and relaxed as you're playing.
So there you go. There's your tab. There's a couple other on the website, so check those out and hope to see you guys soon. Have a good one.
