Bad Moon Rising Play Along Guitar Lesson

A YouTube play-along by Lauren Bateman for CCR's "Bad Moon Rising." Lauren explains this is a play-through (not a detailed how-to), points viewers to a chord chart on her website, then performs two full play-throughs: first slower with a simplified strumming pattern using chords D, A, and G, then at a faster tempo with a syncopated strumming pattern and some improvisation. She closes by inviting donations and encouraging practice.

Hey everybody, welcome back. This is Lauren. This is the play along version of CCR's Baboon Rising. This is not the lesson video. If you would like the lesson video, I'll put a link below here so that you can go back and learn how to play the song. This is not a how to lesson. This is you get to play along with Lauren from beginning to end, which is a goal for a lot of guitarists. Sometimes they learn little parts to songs but they can't play from the beginning to the end. So what we're going to do in this video is we're actually going to play beginning to end. The first time I'm going to play it a little bit slow, slower, maybe a little simplified. Second time I'm going to play through faster tempo and using a slightly more intricate strumming pattern. And sometimes in these play alongs, I improvise a little bit and kind of just play off the cuff. You can do that when you get better and better at guitar. Eventually your strumming hand just kind of gets a mind of its own and will do its own thing. But to start with this one for CCR1, all we're going to do the strumming pattern we're going to use very, very simple is going to be two down strums on the split chords. A, A, G, G, and any full chords we're going to do 1, 2, 3, 4, and down, down, down, down, up. Pretty simple. All right, so we're going to take it from the intro. If you haven't gone and printed out the chord chart, go to laurenbatement.com I'll also put a link below the video. But go to laurenbaby.com, print out the chord chart that I have on my website. This way you have the lyrics and the chords that you can play along to and then come back here and we'll get started. So first time through, we're going to play a little bit slower, simple chords D, A and G. Put the chord progression on the screen. We're going to rock and roll. Ready? So you got 1, 2, 3, 4 and Int.
I see.
I see.
Trouble on the way.

Other breaks and lightning.

I feel a river overflowing.
I hear the voice of rage and ruin.

Cause I bound to take your night.
There's a bad moon on ris.
Well, don't go down tonight.
It'S bound to take your night.
And there you have it. CCR Bad Boy Rising slightly slower with a simplified pattern. Next part, I'm gonna do a more syncopated strumming pattern. I might improvise a little. You never know. When I get into these songs, I just kind of do whatever comes out. So what we're going to do is the strumming pattern is going to go 1, 2 and 4 and 1, 2 and 4 and down, down, up, down, up, down, down, up, down, up. And I'm gonna be kind of accenting some strumming here to make it just sound a little bit more like the song. Because, you know, there's multiple guitars on the CCR song. So we're just trying to capture the essence of the song without playing it exactly the way the song sounds. Alright, so let's start with our intro. So we got 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 4.
I see that moon rising.
I see travel all the way.
I see the place lightning.
I see better times today.

One ey is taken for night Here we go, boys.
And there you go. That is Bamboo Rising. As you can see, it's a pretty peppy song. So if you couldn't keep up with me, don't worry. Simplify the strumming pattern or just work it the slower version until you can play the faster version again. This is my version of the song. I understand it is not the exact version of the song. You don't have to yell at me for that, I know it. But if you guys appreciate what I'm doing here and you're finding this helpful, you can go to my website, laurenvinkman.com donate and you can make a donation to me, which shows me that, you know, you guys appreciate what I'm doing here. I appreciate you guys being here and I appreciate the comments below. I do try to respond to them in time. Sometimes it takes me a week or two, but I do try and get to them so I can say hi to you guys. So that's it. That is CCR's Bab Moon Rising. Hope you guys enjoyed it, and I'll see you in the next video.
