Lauren Bateman shows why your barre chords sound muted: your index finger sits too low and the knuckle kills the bottom strings. Raise it so the fleshy part hits the strings instead, and they'll ring out.

I want to give you a really quick, easy fix for barre chords. I see so many students have this issue, and it's they make the bar, and they mute the bottom two strings. And what's happening for a lot of students is their finger is sitting really low, which means the knuckle of your finger is actually hitting those bottom two strings, and you're curling away from the strings. So I tell a lot of students this is helpful. Reach up with this finger. See how far up above the fretboard my finger sits. So now, instead of hitting those strings at the knuckle point, I'm now hitting them back on this fleshy part, and I have a lot more strength.
