Hey, guitar enthusiasts. Lauren Bateman here. And in this video, we're going to go over chords that sound good together on the guitar. And now, this doesn't just qualify for guitar. This is any instrument at all, whether it be piano, ukulele, whatever. But what I'm going to do in this video is I'm going to go over four categories or families of chords, which we call keys, in music that sound good together. And these are going to be the top four that I think all beginners on guitar should learn. Now, some of these are going to have bar chords, but don't let that deter you, because I have easy fixes to all of these bar chords on my website. So even if you're still a beginner and don't know how to play bar chords, you'll be perfectly fine. So let's get into the four keys I recommend learning for beginner guitarists. So essentially, in music, we have what we call keys. They're basically families of chords that sound very good together. So the first one we're going to go over is the key of G, and I'm going to tell you five chords that you'll find in most of today's popular music. So that's going to be a G major chord, followed by a C major chord, a D major chord.
E minor, and A minor. So those are the five chords. Let me go through that again. So it's going to be G major.
C major, D major, E minor, and A minor. So those are the five chords you can use in the key of G that will sound really good together.
No matter what order you play them in. Pretty cool, huh?
So there you go. So that is the key of G. The next key we're going to talk about is the key of C. So the chords you would play would be the C chord.
The F chord, which is one of our bar chords, the G chord.
The D minor chord, and the A minor chord. So again, if I play any one of those chords, C to F to G to D minor to A minor, they all sound like they get along very well. And they do because they're in the same key. So the next one we're going to talk about is the key of D. So the next key is D. So we're going to have a D major chord, a G major chord, the A major chord, the E minor chord, and the B minor chord, which is another one of our bar chords. Now, there's other chords that are part of these keys. Keys are usually seven chords. I'm just giving you the five most common ones that you'll probably find in songs. And if you go to my website, laurenbateman.com you'll probably see that there is a repetition of these chords over and over and over again. So let's do our final key that I recommend learning for a beginner. Now, why do I go recommending these keys? If you've noticed so far what we've done, before we get into this, a major key, all of the major chords are open, meaning we don't have any barre chords. So we have G, C, D.
D, G, A, and this next one we're gonna have A major, D major, E major, followed by B minor and F sharp minor. So those are the five chords for that key.
All those sound really, really good together. So what you can do, if you're worried about these bar chords that I showed, you can hop over my website, laurenbateman.com and check out some of the easy fixes for these bar chords. You can also check out one of my YouTube videos for easy bar chord fixes. And basically, just to give you an example. So instead of playing a full bar chord for F, we can always play F major 7. That is an option. It works. It'll sound a little bit different, but it'll work for all of the songs. So there you go. Those are the four keys that I recommend all beginner guitar players learn and the associated chords that sound good with them. So you can hop on over to my website and check out some of the songs or check out some of the songs on my YouTube page and you'll see that I use a lot of these same chords over and over and over again. Hope you guys enjoyed the lesson. Leave me a like and a comment and I'll see you in the next lesson video.
