Welcome back, guitar enthusiasts. In this final video of our series, we're going to be going over the lick for the song Crazy Train. So this lick is really cool, it's really interesting. It's a little bit of a tongue twister that can throw you off, but I think it's a great way to practice finger dexterity and working those hands in a super fun and cool way. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to show you how to play it first and then we're going to go in and I'll teach you how to play it.
Now as a little reminder, playing stuff like this can be a little bit harder on an acoustic guitar. So if you have an electric guitar, it'll probably be a little bit easier.
Let's do it. Alright, so I've got the electric guitar here and I've turned up the distortion a little bit so we can rock a little bit. And what we're going to do is we're going to start on the top string. And again, just like most of the songs in this series, each finger is going to own its own fret. So the first finger is going to own the second fret, the second finger is going to own the third fret, the third finger is going to own the fourth, and the pinky is going to own this fifth fret. And what we're going to be doing is we're going to be jumping a lot between this E and this A string. So when we start off, we're going to start off with the second fret on the top string.
So we got. And then the third finger is going to reach down to the fourth fret on the A string.
So we got 2, 2, 4, 2, 2, 4.
And then we're going to come back up to the second fret.
So it's 2, 2, 4, 2, 2, 2, 4, 2. All right, 2, 2, 4, two, five.
After that, two.
So it's 2, 2', 4, 2, 5, 2 and then 4, 2 again, 4, 4, 2.
So it's going to be E string. So we're basically alternating a lot between the E string and the A string. So it's 2, 2 on the E string.
4, 2, 5, 2, 4, 2.
So that is the first eight notes of the lick. So.
So let's discuss the next eight notes. So, so we're going to start on the A string now and we're going to start with the second fret, two open, and then fourth fret on the top string.
So it's two open, four open on the A string, two open, four open, A.
So we got.
And then the last four, we're going back to the second fret.
Two open and then four, four open.
On the top string. So those last eight notes are two.
Open on the A string, four open.
On the A string or two open, four open on the E string. So the whole thing together.
So let's talk about the picking pattern on this, because I do a couple little interesting things, and it does change once I go through it the first time. So what we're going to do is we're mostly doing alternate picking, but it's somewhat directional because I'm picking down when I switch down to the A string and I'm picking up when I switch up to the E string. So let's talk about this really fast. So I'm doing alternate picking here.
Down, down or down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up.
So that's the first section. I'll alternate.
Down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up.
Now this next section, I do something different. We come down to the A string. I do down, up, up. So I do two up picks.
Down, up, up.
Because I'm moving up to the E string. And then I kind of go back to alternate picking.
Down, up, down, up, down.
So that second ver or that second measure.
Down, up, up, down, up, down, up, down.
Which means now I'm going back to the beginning of the lick. So I just picked down, which means the second time through, I'm gonna start the lick on an up pick. So I'm gonna start up, down and.
Then down, down, up, down, up, down, up.
One more time from the beginning.
It is down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down. That's just up, down, down, up, down, up, down, up.
And now we're kind of back to normal.
Down, up, up, down, up, down, up, down.
And then again, you start that next loop on the up. Again, if you're looking for more ways to improve your picking, have more fun on the guitar, you can always check out my guitar course, which I go over bar chords, picking power chords. Lots of cool stuff in there. Or you can always, you know, subscribe to my channel and check out a lot more of the cool videos on here. But I do have a lot more stuff online in that course, so thanks so much for joining this series with me. It was so nice working with you guys, and I hope that you get some really cool finger dexterity improvements out of this lesson series.
