Hey guitar enthusiasts. I had a request for some Bob Dylan. So I'm gonna do an easier version of Don't Think Twice. Let's get into the lesson video.
So if you guys notice, I've got my capo here, my Kaiser capo on the fourth fret of the guitar. This is how we're going to get our guitar to sound just like Bob song in the lesson here. And I'm not going to do the finger picking version. I'll probably do another video of this. That's finger picking because that's a little bit more intermed it. I'm going to keep this more of the beginner level for you guys as much as I can. So first let's go over the chords we're going to use for this song. And there are a lot of them. So let's spend a little time on those real quick. If you guys need the chord chart, if you want to go follow along with that, go over to laurenbateman.com I'll put a link in the description below. You guys can click on that and watch while I go through the lesson. So there's, there's a lot of chords in this song. Fortunately they're mostly open chords. We do have an F chord, but I'll show you a little easy fix for that. So we have some C, G, A minor F. Okay. Those are the beginning ones. Alright. Then we have a D7F sharp in the bass. I'll explain that one to you. We have a G7. A C7. Okay. And I think that's everything that's in the song. So let's explain some of these trickier ones here. So if you don't know how to do bar chords, that's fine. You can always do an F major 7. You can do the four fingered version, the three fingered version, whichever one is easier for you. Okay, I'm gonna put both diagrams up here. If you need to pause the video to find those, do it. The. The three fingered one's easy to go from a C chord to an F major 7. This one is an F major 7. Okay. And it's all relative to the capo. So form all of your chords from the capo as this. As if this was the top nut of the guitar. Alright, so that is the first one. The other one is a D7 with an F sharp in the bass. So I would make a D7 chord. And I usually do this by playing my thumb. Now if you're a beginner, you might not have enough stretch in your wrist to be Able to do this comfortably. And if you can't, then don't worry. Just play the D7 chord, you'll be fine. You won't get that nice bass on the top, but don't worry about it. If you can't do that thumb reach over. Some people have very small hands. Just play the D7 chord and you'll be perfectly fine. So there's really only two sections to this song, so let's go over them. The first part is the end intro. Okay. And I'm going to tell you the strumming pattern we're going to use for this song in that intro. So the strumming pattern first let's talk about the chords. The chords are going to be C, G, A minor, G, C, G, C, C. Okay? All nice open chords to start with. The strumming pattern we're going to use is going to be. I'll start on a C chord here. Is going to be 1, 2 and 3 and 4 and okay, 1, 2 and 3 and 4and down, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, down, up, down, up.
2 and 3 and 4 and 1, 2 and 3 and 4. And now the difficulty of this song is that it's very fast. If you've ever listened to this song, it's cooking alright. So it's more like.
So to get that speed, some of you are like, oh my God, this is going so fast. You may just need to breathe and relax your wrist. The other part, if that's too fast for you, just do four down strums, you know, one, two, three, four. One, two, three, four. 1, 2, 3, 4. Okay, if that's all you can do, fine. Play always play to your level. Okay? Everyone's guitar journey is different. Play to your level, don't play to my level. Okay, so if you can only do four down strums, do that. If you can do the challenge of the eighth note strumming pattern, give it a try. So here's what that intro is going to sound like. A 1, 2, 3, 4.
All right, you might need to start. You might need to go 1, 2 and 3 and 4 and 1, 2.
All right, maybe you're gonna do the ballad version. You don't have to do the speedy version. That's the cool thing about covering someone else's song is you can do it at whatever speed you want to. All right, But I'm gonna try and do it the way Bob does, or at least the way he does it in the video that I listen to. All right, so the verse is a Very. I don't know if I would ever be able to memorize this. There's no, absolutely no repetition in this verse. It's just a slew, an onslaught of chords. Bob's a jerk here. All right, so what we're doing, let's go through it a couple lines at a time. So we've got C, G, A minor twice. Okay, Then we have F twice.
Then C, C, G. All right, so that'll sound like this. 1, 2 and 3 and 4. 1, 2 and 3 and four. 1, 2 and 3.
All right, that's the first part. Next couple lines we have C, G, A minor twice again. But this time this is where that D7F sharp comes in.
So if you can do the F sharp, you'll get, you'll get that bass sound. If you can't, it'll just be bright D7. So it's D7F sharp twice G, then G7. All right, so that part's going to sound like this.
All right, after that we have double C, double C7, double F, double D, D7, F sharp. Wonderful. Let's give it a try. Alright, so we have C and going from C to C7 is very easy. You just got to add that pinky on the third string, third fret there. Okay, so we've got 1, 2 and 3 and 4 and 1, 2 and 3 and 4and 1, 2 and 3 and 4&1. Now getting to F is also pretty easy from a C. You can either just drop these two fingers down or if you do the four finger version, put your fingers in place. I'm going to do the bar chord.
And then D7F sharp.
And then the last two lines. Told you, tons of chords here. Sorry. We have C, G, A minor, F. And I will play through this whole thing, don't you worry. C, G, double C. And then after that we have a little bit of an interlude that's very, very similar to the intro. So let me play through this verse top to bottom for you guys. I'll do it a little bit slower. I won't do it fast speed like Bob does it. I'll slow it down just a tiny bit for you guys. All right, so Here we go. 1, 2, 3, 4.
F, F, C.
G, A minor.
D7.
G.
B to C7.
To F.
D7. We got C, G, A minor, F, C.
All right.
And there you go. Sorry guys, I can't really sing with these because I'll get hit with, with copyright. But at least I'm trying to play through them a bit for you guys, after that, like I said, there's a little interlude. It's C, G, A minor twice. Then we have C, G and then C four times.
And after that it's just verse after verse after verse. So he does keep it simple after that. But it's a lot of chords to memorize and play through, so you might want to keep your eye on the sheet music to play along with this one. All right, guys, I hope you enjoyed the easy lesson of Bob Dylan's Don't Think Twice. If you have songs you want me to try and learn and put up here on YouTube comment below.
