You guys know the chords, A, D and E. Well, you are in luck because Wild Thing is an amazingly fun song that you can play on the guitar. And it's simple enough that you can play it at the beginner level.
Now, Wild Thing used to be one of the first songs that I would teach a lot of beginner students because in the beginning, a lot of students don't know rhythm very well. And part of my is that, you know, I help you make guitar make sense so that you can have more fun, right, Playing songs that you know and love. So this song has a very distinct rhythm to it that if you know the song well enough, you can understand the rhythm without always necessarily needing to count the rhythm. So before we get into the actual strumming pattern, let's just review the chords real quick. I'm going to give you two options for this song. The first is you can play all open chords. You can play A major, D major, and E major chords. The other option for you rockers out there is that you can use an A5 power cord, a D5 power cord, and an E5 power cord. So if you're playing on an electric guitar and you add a little distortion to the amp.
Bet you didn't know you could put distortion on an acoustic guitar, did you? So now that you know what chords we're going to be using in this song, let's get into the guitar strumming pattern. So there's a couple things that we're going to go through. We're going to go through this step by step, part by part. So we have an intro, and the intro is just a little bit different than the rest of the song. Now, this only happens once and happens during the intro. So it's going to be A, a, then d 3 times 1, 2, 3, then it's e 4 times 1, 2, 3, 4, back to d. And it'll sound like.
So if you want to know the exact rhythm and timing, if you're someone that's interested in that, just so you know, it's 1, 2, and 4 and 1 and 2 and. And 4.
1, 2, and 4. And 1 and 2 and. And four.
A, a, d, D, D, E, E.
E, E.
So the next section of the song is actually the chorus section. And this stays consistent throughout the song. So that's great. The only other thing that it's different is the verse and one of the interludes. So we'll go through it step by step, starting with the chorus. So we're going to start. It's the Same order of chords. It's A D, E, D. And something changes on the very last one. But here is going to be the timing. It's going to be A, A, D, D, E, E, D, D, D. Okay? And the great thing about this song is it really lines up with the lyrics most of the time. So we've got Wild thing.
You make my heart sing.
So if you're ever wondering about the timing, just do that first line.
Wild thing.
You make my heart sing.
Okay, so you can hear this timing really goes well. So let's play it together. So it's A, A, D, D, E, E, D, D, D. And it does this three times. And then the fourth time through, we're going to do something just a little bit different. But let's play that through three times. Read.
Now this very last line of the course, we've got wild things. So it's still A, A, D, D. And then we have four really quick E's. E, E, E, E. Okay, that's what it's. So it sounds like this wild thing.
Now, once you play that, we're going to be jumping into our ver verse section. There's two ways again, that you could play this. You could play open chords. You could go G, A, G, A. But I like to play a single note. So I like to play the third fret on the top string, which is our G note, and our A string, which is the A note. So open A string, G, A, G, A wild thing I think I love you.
But I want to know for.
Sure.
So come on, hold me tight.
I love you okay, so it's really simple. It's just two notes. G, A, G, A. And you let that A note ring out. Now, after the first verse, we go right into an interlude, which is the same exact rhythm as our chorus. It's the AADD EE triple D. And you play that twice. Then after that, we have a flute solo, which is really nothing but another chorus. Okay, in terms of chord progressions, everything's the same. We have a verse. Then we have this really weird interlude that comes in. So let's talk about that real quick. So our interlude starts off the same way, going A, A, D, D, E, E, D, D, D. Okay. Starts the same. And then we got A, A, D, D. Now right here, we're gonna hang out on this E chord for a very long time. And the timing of it's gonna be.
1, 2, 3, 4. 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 4. 1, 2, 1. 1, 2, 3, 4. 1, 2, 3. 1, 2, 3, four. 1, 2, 3, Four.
Okay, let's do that again. All right, what I recommend, listen to me, do it a couple times, and then go back and try and play it with me. All right, so just listen to it, then try and count it with me and then try and play it. So we've got one starting on the E. 2, 3, 4.
It's 1, 2, 3, 4. 1, 2. 1, 2, 3, 4. 1, 2, 1. 1, 2, 3, four. 1, 2, 3. 1, 2, 3, Four. 1, 2, 3, FOUR.
Again.
1, 2, 3,4. 1, 2. 1, two, three, four. 1, 2. 1, Two, 3, 4. 1, two, three. 1, 2, three, four. 1, Two, three, four.
Now, you might notice on this part, I'm not strumming the entire E chord. You could. And maybe if I was playing live and I got excited, I would strum the whole chord, but I'm really focusing on these darker notes. All right, so if I just play through that interlude, and then I'll do a full playthrough for you guys. So it's got a, A, D, D, E, E, D, D, D, A, a.
D, d. One, two, three, four. One, two. One, two, three, Four. One, two. One, 2, 3, 4. One, two, 3. One, two, three, 4. One, two, Three, four.
Wa.
So if you guys think you've got a feel for the rhythm, we're going to do a play along here with me. If I'm going too fast, you can always adjust the settings. Cog down there and make it slower that you can play along with me.
1, 2, 3, 4.
