This YouTube guitar tutorial (uploaded by Lauren Bateman on 2026-01-26) teaches a simple way to play the verse of the Beatles' "Hey Jude." The instructor lists four basic chords (D, A, A7, G), demonstrates a simple counted strumming pattern (down, down, down, up, down), and sings portions of the verse while guiding learners through the chord progression.
D, A, A7, G.
Down, down, down, up, down (counted as 1,2,3,4).

Hey, guitar enthusiasts, I have a Beatles classic for you called hey Jude. Uses very, very simple chords. We have a D chord, we have an A chord, we have an A7 chord, which is basically an A chord with the middle finger in the air. And then we have a G chord, and that's it. All right, so four chords. D, A, A seven, and G. To play the verse section of the song. Now, I'm going to keep the strumming very simple, where it's just going to be 1, 2, 3, and 4. Down, down, down, up, down. Ready? Down, down. Here we go. Hey, June, don't make it bad? Take a sad song and make it better? Remember the letter into your heart? Then you make it better.
