Horse With No Name Guitar Play Along Lesson

Lauren Bateman leads a YouTube play-along for the song "Horse with No Name." She clarifies this is not a lesson (link to a separate lesson is provided) and offers two strumming options: four down-strums (1-2-3-4) or an eighth-note down-up pattern ("one-and-two-and-three-and-four"). Bateman plays the song at normal speed from start to finish so viewers can practice playing along; she points viewers to laurenbateman.com for the chord chart and a donation link, and closes by inviting comments and feedback. The video was posted as part of her guitar play-along series.

Hey, guitar enthusiasts, welcome back to the play along section of my YouTube channel. This is actually one of my most played songs, I think, because it's one of the songs that a lot of people learn because it's only got two chords. And this song is Horse with no Name. So this is not a lesson video. If you're looking for the lesson video, there's a link below here that you can go and learn how to actually play. But can you. But if you've already watched that video, this is just a play along so that you can practice playing along with the song. So usually I'll do a slow version and a fast version, but because this song is really only two chords and a lot of my students have, they pick it up pretty quickly, I'm just going to play it at the normal speed. So you can either just do. There's two strumming patterns we can use. You can use all four down strums. 1, 2, 3, 4. Or you can use an eighth note strumming pattern if your chord changes are fast enough.
Down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up.
One and two and three and four. And that's the strumming pattern I'm gonna use when I start singing. Sometimes my strumming hand goes on autopilot. Because when you sing and play guitar at the same time, usually you're not thinking too much about the guitar. So you might hear my strumming pattern vary a little bit. Don't worry about that. Just try and keep up as best you can. So I'm gonna play through this song beginning to end. If you need the chord chart, you can go to laurenbateman.com to go do that. And if you would like to make a donation, you can always go to laurenbateman.com donate. I always appreciate any support you guys give for my time here. So let's get to it. I'm going to start with this intro here and then I'm going to go through the entire song, start to finish, without stopping. And hopefully you can play along and keep up. Ready? Here we go. So we got 1, 2, 3, 4.
On the first part of the journey I was looking at all the light.
There were plants and birds and rocks and things. There was sand and hills and rings.
The first thing I met was a fly with a buzz the sky with no clouds. The heat was hot and the ground was dry but the air was full of sound.
I been through the desert on a horse with no name. It felt good to be out of the rain in the desert. You can remember Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain. La la la la la la la la la la la la la.
After two days in the desert sun My skin bend.
And the story told of a river that flowed Made me sad to think it was dead? Well I've been through a desert on a horse with no name. The good to be. Out of the rain in the desert you can remember your name. Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain. La la la la la la la la la la la. Let's do that again. La la la la la la la.
The horse run free. Cause the desert had turned.
Some birds and rocks and things.
The ocean is a desert with its life underground and the perfect disguise above. Under the cities lies a heart made of ground. But the humans will give your love.
So I've been through the desert on a horse when no name felt good to me. Out of the rain in the desert can't remember your name. There ain't no one more to give you no pain.
Again.
