House Of The Rising Sun Guitar Play Along Lesson

A play-along video by Lauren Bateman for 'House of the Rising Sun' intended for practice, not a full instructional lesson. Lauren performs the song twice for viewers: first as a slow strumming version (counted in 6/8), then as a picked version with occasional raking while singing. She encourages learners to keep going through mistakes, notes the song's chord changes (calls out F as a tricky change), and provides spoken counts to help timing.

Hey guitar enthusiasts, welcome back to the Play along series. This is not actually a lesson video on House of the Rising Sun. If you want to see the lesson video, there's a link below this video. This is actually the Play along where you get to practice playing along from the beginning to the end of the song. With me now what I'll do is is I'm gonna play through probably play through a couple ways for you guys. Usually I start off by going slower and then I play faster. So what I'm doing is I'm going to take the house of the rising sun and I'm gonna do it very slowly as eighth note. And this is a 68 pattern. But for a lot of people this is much easier to play than if I pick it.
Which I will do the the second time through. So if you want to play just strumming, we'll do it the first way through. The second time I'll do it the picking way so that you can practice both ways. So we'll start off with the intro. This song is in six, eight times so we're going to be counting. One, two, three, four, five, six. One, two, three, Four, five, six. Alright, starting at a minor, here we go. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

All right, so that's the first time through with the strumming this next time through I'm going to do some picking and. And don't be too hard on yourself, you know, picking. Especially if you're still learning how to pick.
If you make a mistake, just keep going. Just try and get the chord. If you can't get your change that F chord fast enough, don't worry. This song has a lot of chords and a lot of changes in it. Just keep practicing. Alright, so we're going to take it from the top again. I'm going to play it.
Picked. I won't do the rake or I might depends on my mind does its own thing when I start singing. So I might do picking, I might do some raking. Whatever comes out comes out. And I literally don't have much control over it. So let's start off with our intro on the A minor again. Ready? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Oops, sorry. Do that again. 1, 2, 3, 4,. 5, 6.
