How I Made $46,000 in 8 Days as Music Teacher

Lauren Bateman, a guitar teacher for older adults, made $46,000 in eight days using a free course to build her email list, then sent five promotional emails with a time-limited bonus. She credits years of YouTube content and audience research with ChatGPT for the result.

So before I made this video, I looked up what the average salary was for a musician in the Boston area, because I'm in the Boston area. And I got $48,731. Now that's someone probably working 40 hours a week, having to drive into work. And they probably work more for like an established school system versus something like a music school, because a lot of my teachers really only work, you know, 20 to 30 hours a week, so they wouldn't be making that $48,000 a year. In contrast, I made $46,000 in only eight days. And I did it on very, very part time hours. And I'm going to show you in this video how I did it. Now, for those of you who don't know me, my name is Lauren Bateman and I have a successful guitar teaching channel here on YouTube. I help older adults learn to play guitar. And now I'm helping educators learn how to leverage the power of YouTube and courses so that, that they can ear earn what they're worth teaching what they love. And what I want to do is I want to preface that where I'm at today did not happen overnight. Okay? I've been at this for a few years, okay. Started back in 2017. That's when I uploaded my first official that. I was like, I'm going to do this YouTube thing and I uploaded my video and I literally got zero views. A goose egg. Okay, no views. I uploaded the video. So it just goes to show you that, that I didn't start, you know, this wasn't just like an overnight success thing. This took time. But I want to show you how leaning into YouTube and building a brand online can help you make more money in the long term. Now, the first thing, especially if you doing a course or you're doing a YouTube channel, this is a big mistake that I see content creators make is they don't know who their audience is yet because they're putting content out there and you know, they're, they're putting stuff and just hoping something sticks to the wall. Or I've worked with who've made like a really big course, and it wasn't the right course for their audience. They just made a course, but they didn't think about their audience, what their problems were. Okay. Because your course needs to be very specific to an audience. And also we need to know what their pain points are so that we can use it in our content and use it in our marketing to sell them our products and services. So number one is doing a deep dive on who your person is. And ChatGPT is great at this. You could go over to Chat GPT and you could say, hey, you know, Write me a 500 word journal essay of the worst day in my client's life. My client is, you know, over the age of 50, wants to learn to play guitar, but sometimes, you know, they, they suffer from arthritis. This is something they've wanted to do their entire life, but life got in the way. Could you write me a summary? And you might be amazed because AI is really, really good at this. But it can tell you who your person is. You know, what are their pain points? You could ask them, you know, this is my client. What are their top three pain points? And then AI will tell you and you can use that to build a course around. All right, and build content around and marketing around. Now the second thing you need, and I'm going to go offline and we're going to show you this whole process on my back end. But I'm just going through the steps right now. Step two is you need a way to get people off of the YouTube platform over to your platform. Okay. Because we, we don't own anyone here on YouTube. Yeah, we have subscribers, but I don't know who those subscribers are. They're just a number, you know, and maybe if they leave a comment, I can see their handle. But I don't know who this person is. I can't really, can't really market to them very well. I'd rather get them off the platform and interact with me. Mine is a free course and when they get the free course, they have to give me their email to get that information. So once I have the email now I can market, I can follow up with these people. And that's step number three is that you need a marketing system in place to upsell these people into a program. And that's where we're going to go on the back end right now. So I'm over here now in Kajabi, which is my course platform. If you don't have a course platform yet, I highly recommend Kajabi. I'll put a link in the description below for you to go and check that out. So this is the last 31 days. We're still, you know, it's still the 31st here, but you can see here we, we just ran this, this cool promotion last week. So I'm just going to pull up the last eight days of data which is the 23rd through the 30th. So just to show you quickly, you can see like, you know, this was a, a decent month in terms of highs and lows. We had some, you know, big days and we had some low days where we had some refunds. But let's just pull up those last eight days of data so that you can see here. So overall did $46,000 in eight days from May 23 to May 30. And a big part of that was because I have a lot of people who've signed up for this free course and we're trying to get them off the fence. Okay. Because I have so many people who sign up for this free course and they never buy. So every 90 days we do a little promotion. Now, it's not a discount. I don't believe in doing discounts on courses, but I make a little special extra bonus offer for them. So there we go. This is the actual promotion. So anything related to my 7 level promo is right here. So you can see the majority of it was that promotion, $30,842. And we knew that, you know, people were waiting for something because last week sales were a little bit slow. And we sent out an email on Friday just kind of announcing the offer. So I'm going to go through the process of what you need to do when you're promoting to your email list and you have something special going on. And this is what I go through, you know, with my mentoring program. I give them my exact templates, my emails, what I use to do these promotions step by step. But in general, I'm going to give you a summary. So the first email you send out is basically an announcement. Hey, you know, I'm doing this, this special promotion. Here's what's included. Here's a link to go by. Now this was really strange because we usually don't get this many sales on the announcement email, but we got 14 sales. I'll usually get like maybe two or three or four. But for some reason people were ready to buy. Okay. And you can see throughout the week we got some, some emails. So I think the actual hot. So this was Saturday, Sunday. This is the actual holiday. We even got some emails. So I didn't send any emails on, you know, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, because it was the holiday. And I figured, let me just give people time to enjoy the holiday. They're probably traveling, they're away spending time with their families. And then on Tuesday, we sent out our next email which was more information about the program. So we call this our FAQ email. And it's just, hey, you know, I Got a bunch of questions about this. Even if you didn't get a bunch of questions, but you say, hey, I got a bunch of questions. And it is the most common questions you get asked about your program. So how long do I have access to it? Okay, that's a very, very common one. How does it work? You know, do you teach songs in your program? Because I'm a guitar teacher, so I have to let them know we can't do. We don't do copywritten music in the program. It's just techniques. Okay. Do you have a payment plan? You know, what if I'm an absolute beginner? So all those common questions that people have, we just do FAQ and then we remind them what the offer is. And we have a buy button. Now, this is Wednesday. We didn't send out any emails on Wednesday. And then Thursday we kind of sent out our proof of purchase. These are our testimonials. Okay, so we, we want proof or the show social proof email, not, you know, proof of purchase. The social proof email that says, hey, there's other people who are just like you who've gone through this program and it has helped them amazingly well. So you can see on this day, there's a huge bump in sales because now people are like, oh, and, you know, we, we put testimonials, we got pictures of people that look like my ideal audience. So I work with older adults, so it's a lot of older adults saying, hey, you know, I wanting to play the guitar. For 20 years I had, you know, worked with a number of teachers or I was learning on YouTube. I wasn't making any progress. I finally bought Lauren's program and now look at me now. I can play 25 songs. And that's what people want. They want to be like, oh, my God, someone else had the same story that I had and they were successful. People want to see that they can be successful too. And you can see we got a bunch of sales now on Friday, we sent out two emails, okay, we sent out one in the morning that says, hey, there's less than 24 hours left for you to get access to this course. Take action now. And then we send out another one at 6:00 clock at night, all right, 6:00pm Eastern Time, saying, hey, there's six hours left. And then this offer goes away forever. And then basically what we do is we have the offer automatically turn off on the back end so people can't, people can't buy after our deadline. Now this is interesting, and I think what happened here Usually, usually my Friday is twice as much as my Thursday. This is a very interesting promotion, but I think because we sold so many on the first day, it took away from the, from the last day a little bit. But overall, very happy with this promotion. All I did was send out, what did I say, 1, 2, 3, 5 emails. I sent out five emails to people that gave me their email because I was able to get them off the YouTube platform, they were able to sign up for this course. And then we promoted to them and told them we had an offer and that we had a program and to write these emails. I think it took me because I have templates, I think it took me about an hour's work to do this. So for an hour of work I made almost $31,000. Now granted, there was other work I've done in the process and that was all the YouTube content that I've put out there. So that's been accumulating for years and it's helping the process. And you know, at this stage of the game, there is a little bit of advertising money, some Facebook advertising money that is going in to build this email list and grow it faster. But even when I didn't have Facebook advertising, I was still making, you know, 500, $600,000 a year without spending money on advertising. So you can see over time how this can grow. Now if you're someone that is an educator and really wants to take growing and selling on YouTube seriously, I do have a mentorship program where I go through stuff like this with students all the time. Hey Lauren, can you look at my landing page? Can you look at my follow up emails? Make sure they're all set. Alright. They have 12 months to work with me and they get all my courses to help them grow their YouTube channel, build a course that their audience actually wants to buy. So many people they record a course and then nobody buys it. It's crickets. Okay, so if you've got even a small channel, right, 500,000 subscribers and you're looking to get into this more seriously, click the link in the description below. I would love to help you make what you're worth teaching what you love.
