Hey youtubers, in this video we're going to be answering the question, how long does it take to get to a thousand subscribers? I'm going to tell you about my journey here in this video.
My name is Lauren Bateman. I'm a guitar teacher here on YouTube and I do teach on YouTube full time. And I often get asked by YouTubers, hey, how long does it take to get to a thousand subscribers? And the reason they're asking is because they want to know how they can get started getting monetized. Because monetization on YouTube is 1000 subscribers and 4000 hours of watch time. I have another video on monetization that you guys can go watch up there. But in this video I'm going to tell you a little bit about my journey getting to a thousand subscribers. Now, it took me about one year to go from zero to a thousand subscribers. I started my channel in about April of 2017 and I think I finally got monetized around July of 2019. Now I, I didn't know a lot of the things that I'm going to teach you on my channel here about promoting, about SEO, about keywords, ways to get people to see your videos. In order to get more views and subscribers on your channel, you should be looking at different avenues to promote promoting in Facebook groups, going to Reddit, looking at Pinterest, LinkedIn, Tumblr, posting everywhere, Twitter, sharing your message out. Because in the beginning stages when you're growing your channel and every single view counts and make sure in your videos to do call to the actions, just like this. Hey youtubers, don't forget to subscribe to my channel and turn on the notifications because YouTube will show you more videos just like this. Those were simple things that I forgot to do when I was starting off on YouTube. And I have a video out there that's got like over 1.5 million views and it doesn't have a single call to action on it, because I didn't know. So if you want to get more views, you want to get more subscribers, you have to ask people to subscribe to your channel. So make sure you do that. Because I found in videos where I actually asked for the subscribe, people would subscribe more versus when I didn't. Another thing that helped me with getting subscribers was really pinpointing what I wanted to do my YouTube channel on. I really wanted to focus on guitar lessons and I really wanted to focus on older learners, people over the age of 50. And that's really what I tailored my content to now, now Do I get other people who are younger? Sure I do, but I kept hitting a very specific target audience. I see a lot of YouTubers and you know, they're trying to do a travel blog and you know, this and that and the other thing. And their channel has like five different things. And in the beginning I think you got to go very narrow and very specific and then you can broaden from there once your channel grows. Because you want to keep hitting those people that really want to watch every single video you release. Because what's that going to do? It's going to make them more interested. They're going to watch more of your videos. And when they watch more videos, it's more likely that they are going to subscribe to your channel and get you to that thousand subscriber mark. If you guys enjoyed this video, make sure to give me a thumbs up and comment below with any questions you might have on your YouTube journey. I'm more than happy to answer them for you.
