Knockin On Heavens Door Guitar Play Along Lesson

This is a Lauren Bateman YouTube play-along of 'Knockin' on Heaven's Door.' She states this is a play-along (not a lesson), gives a strumming pattern (1-2-3-4 with down, down, down, up, down, up), mentions a chord chart at laurenbateman.com, plays the song once slowly and once faster while singing lyrics and demonstrating dynamics (softer verses, louder choruses), and closes with a donation request and invitation to other videos.

Hello guitar enthusiasts, welcome back to the Play along series. I had some requests for people to get my guitar a little bit more on the shot. So I'll do that for you guys from now on. So this song, what we're gonna do is knocking on heaven's door. This is not a lesson video. This is a play along. So if you want the lesson video to learn the song, there's a link below this video that you can go and look on how to play the song. So here, what I'm going to do is I'm going to play it through one time at a slower pace using a strumming pattern, and then I'm going to play it through a second time through a little bit faster and I might ad lib the pattern a little bit, but at least you'll be able to see my hands and my chord changes so that you can play along with me. So the chord, the strumming pattern that we're going to use for this is 1, 2, 3 and 4 and down, down, down, up, down, up. And if you need the chord chart, you can go to laurenbateman.com and get the chord chart to follow along. So let's get started. I'm going to go at a slow pace, starting with the intro, starting with the G chord. So ready, we got one, two.
Sam.
Mama take this breath from me.
Cause I can't use it anymore.
It's canon dark to dark to see.
Feels like I'm knocking on heaven's door door.
Knock knock, knocking on heaven's door.
Knock knock, knocking on heaven.
Knock knock, knocking on heaven.
Knock knock, knocking on Evan's door.
Yeah yeah Mama put my guns to the ground.
Cuz I can't shoot them anymore.
That long black cloud is coming down.
Feels like I'm knocking on heaven's door.
Knock knock, knocking on heaven's door.
Knock knock, knocking on heaven soul.
There you go.
So you see, I actually, as I start thinking about other things, I actually made a couple mistakes. Playing slow is actually much harder than playing up to speed. I don't know if you guys know that, so. But you'll notice that even when I make mistakes, I just keep playing through them. So if you make a mistake, don't worry about it. Fix it as quickly as possible and keep going. So I'm going to play through the second time now, and this time I'm going to go a little bit faster, a little bit more up to speed and I'm just gonna let my hand do whatever it wants. So when I play rhythm guitar, my hand's usually on autopilot, and when I'm singing, it's hard to really focus on what the guitar is doing. So when I sing, usually, my hand takes on a mind of its own. So at this point, I'm gonna focus mostly on the singing and just let my strumming hand do whatever. But you can continue to use that same strumming pattern from before. So I'm gonna go a little bit faster starting from the the intro. So we got 1, 2, 3, 4.
Mama take this badge from me.
Cause I can't use it anymore.
It'S getting.
Dark, too dark to see here.
Feels like I'm knocking on heaven stone.
Knock knock, knocking on every stone.
Mama put my guns ground.
Cause I.
Can'T shoot them anymore.
The long black cloud is coming down.
Feels like I'm knocking on every stone.
Knock knock, knocking on every door.
Knock knock knock it on heaven go.
Yeah.
And there you have it. That is knocking on heaven's door. You can see with my strumming, I put a little bit more dynamics between the verses and the choruses. So the choruses were a little bit louder and the verses were a little bit softer. So there you go. That's knocking on heaven's door. If you enjoyed the video, feel free to go to laurenbateman.com donate. You can make a donation if you appreciate my time and what I'm doing here. I really appreciate the support. So I'll see you guys in the next play along video.
