Lauren Bateman (YouTube, May 6, 2024) gives concise, practical advice for selling a new product without an ad budget: prioritize building and promoting an email list (even small lists), actively use all social platforms (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube) to announce offerings, and personally reach out to friends/family (offer discounts) rather than buying ads until you have a proven sales funnel.

The biggest way to get sales when you're first starting is if you have an email list. Promote that email list, even if it's only 100 people, you still have access to people who have said they're interested in your products. So that's one way to start selling something. The other thing is to use your social media platforms. And I'm not just talking YouTube, use Facebook, use Instagram, use them all. You really have to promote yourself and be unapologetic about it. You can use your personal Facebook page to say, hey, I'm releasing this new course. If anyone's interested in learning guitar, go buy my course. You need to use the social media platforms because maybe you don't have money to do advertising in the beginning. And I actually recommend that you don't do advertising until you have a proven funnel. But what you need to do is reach out to people. You have people in your life, maybe family, friends. Hey, do you know anyone that's looking to learn guitar? I just released this new course. I'll give them 50% off since they're family or friend discount. You can do that too. But that's the best thing. You just have to get out there and let people know you have a product for sale.
