A short personal-narrative video in which Lauren Bateman recounts her pre-music life: she studied archaeology at Boston University, later earned a degree in biology, worked as a union construction laborer after college, then took a first science job in biotech performing histology (preparing slides for pathologists) as part of medical/drug research.
I wanted to be an archaeologist, and I went to Boston University. I got a degree in archaeology, and I said, maybe I should get a degree in something that's actually useful. So I got a degree in biology, went to school, because that was the thing that you had to do. And then I got out of college and I said, what am I going to do with this degree? Well, I'm going to work construction. And I worked as a union laborer for a few years until I got my first job in science, which was working for a biotech company. And I did histology, which I'd never heard of before, which is you cut slides for pathologists. And they were working on all kinds of medical research, drug research. That's my first path in life, before music.
