A brief YouTube monologue by creator Lauren Bateman recounting her experience with YouTube copyright enforcement. She describes making a video about the song "Hotel California" by the Eagles that was blocked; she then reworked the video to teach about the song without singing lyrics, which allowed it to pass YouTube's content-matching algorithm.
Copyright on YouTube can be tricky sometimes. I did a video on Hotel California by the Eagles, who are the worst for copyright on YouTube. So I put all this time and effort, and I showed it, and everyone's like, it's black. It's blocked. And I completely got the video blocked. So I said, crap. I go, I just made this video. How am I gonna get Hotel California onto YouTube? I'm gonna teach the video, but I'm not gonna sing. I didn't sing any of the lyrics, and that actually got it to go through the YouTube algorithm.
