Lauren Bateman leads a YouTube play-along of Ben E. King's "Stand By Me." She announces where to download the chord chart (laurenbateman.com) and the separate lesson link, demonstrates a primary strumming pattern (down, down, up, up, down, up) and an easier alternative (down, down, up), then performs the song twice — first at a slower tempo, then at a slightly faster tempo — singing and playing through intro, verses, interlude, and choruses before closing with links and a sign-off.

Hey, and welcome to my play along video for Stand By Me and this song. I'm going to be playing through the song twice and you can go to my website laurenbateman.com to download the chord chart. The link is below this video. If you're looking for the lesson video, you can go and and find that below this video as well. So this is just a play along and the first time I'm going to play through at a slower pace and the second time through, I'm going to play through at a slightly faster tempo. Now for this song, I'm going to use the down, down, up, up, down, up strum. If you want to use one of the other easier strums that I recommend on the website, go right ahead and you can play along with me. You could just do down, down, up if you would like. So I'm gonna start from the intro and I'm gonna play all the way through. I will sing for you guys. Let me make sure my guitar is in tune because I don't think I tuned it before this video. I'll be right back.
Welcome back, guys.
Sorry about that. I'm in tune now. So let's start off. We're gonna start off on the A chord and I'll count us in. 1, 2, 3, 4 for intro.
Verse. When the night.
Has come.
And the land is dark.
And the moon.
Is the only light we see.
No, I won't.
Be afraid no, I won't be afraid Just as long.
As you stand.
Stand by me.
Some darling darling stand.
By me oh, stand by me oh, stand.
Stand by me Stand.
With the sea we look upon.
Should tumble and fall.
All the mountain.
Should crumble to the sea.
I won't cry I won't cry no, I won't shed a tear here. Just as long.
As you stand stand by me.
Now we have an interlud.
Repeat that same thing again.
All right, last chorus. Here we go.
Stand by me O stand.
Stand by me Stand by me.
Excellent. I might have thrown one extra A chord in that interlude, but that's okay. I'm gonna do the song again at a slightly faster tempo now using that same strumming pattern. So if you feel like you need to use the slower version, keep practicing with that. I'm going to go to the faster version right now. So we got one, two. Intro.
When the night.
Come.
And the land is dark oh, and the moon is the only light we see.
No, I won't be afraid no, I won't be afraid Just as long as you stand Stand by.
So darling, darling, stand by me? Oh, stand by me? Oh, stand?
Stand by me? Stand by me?
If the sea me look upon?
She'll tumble and fall o' er the mountain? And she look tremble in the sea?
But I won't cry? I won't cry? No, I won't shed a tear? Just as long as you stand? Stand by.
Sam?
Stand by me? O stand by me? Stand by me.
