Lauren Bateman describes her career progression: she began as a private music teacher, grew a brick-and-mortar teaching business, delegated teaching duties by hiring staff so she could manage the business, and then shifted focus to building an online teaching business (recording content and growing it) while still maintaining oversight of the physical business because it provided most of her income.
As you grow, there's different skill sets that you have. So when I started, I started as a private music teacher, I had a brick and mortar business, and then I delegated that out. I hired other employees, I hired other teachers, and I stopped teaching so that I could spend my time managing the business. I wasn't working in the business anymore. I had more time working on the business. And we were trying to create systems and processes so that eventually I could move away from that business and start focusing my time on the online business. So I got it started teaching in the online business, and a lot of my time time was focused on recording the content, growing that, and building that. But I still had to keep my eye on the brick and mortar a little bit. We couldn't just let that fall apart, because that's where most of my income was coming.
